*Treated badly. *Rude, spiteful owners! *Decent breakfast *Pretty good WiFi *Cash only (as is most of Bolivia) *Wasnt given the tea/coffee and cookies the Spanish speaking guests got.
We only speak basic and broken Spanish so partially communicated using Google translate thankfully. We chose this place based on the great reviews, sadly we didn't experience the same as others! The place was practically empty yet the owners still wanted top money to stay here, eventually the lady came down slightly in price to $20.50 USD per night for 2 people. It's a big place on 3 levels and there may have been 1 or 2 other guests there at the same time. As we looked around we say an electric heater in 1 empty room which we ended putting in our room as it was so cold at night. The next day the owner took the heater from us and locked it back in the empty room, there were no other guests using it or the room it came from!!! Very spiteful.... The breakfast was pretty decent and consisted of scrambled egg, bread, cereal, yoghurt, small orange juice and coffee. The kitchen was for family use only so couldn't cook for ourselves. We weren't given any information about the hostel, breakfast times, check out or anything. On each floor is a communal sitting area which is where we sat after emptying our room for check out around 11am, the WiFi was stronger there. We went downstairs to go and get cash in the town to pay for our stay as nowhere accepts any card payments and the lady starts getting angry with us saying check out is at 11am (which nobody told us anyway) we tried to tell her the room is empty and we have just been sat in the common area. She basically wanted us to leave. On our return the guy is annoyed with us telling us that check out is at 10am!!! We don't know what we did...
Read moreI would have liked to have rated this hostel better since I had read so many nice reviews about the couple who run it and its coziness. However, we were not shown the same hospitality as many others, I think due to the fact we do not speak fluent Spanish. The location is okay. It is a rather large hostel. No kitchen for cooking btw. The breakfast is very good and filling so it gets a star for that. And the water in the shower was hot and the rooms were comfy, so a total of two stars. There was one other guest while we were there. We noticed that guest was offered tea and cookies each day like many other guests' reviews. We were not. We even sat downstairs in the common area for a while hoping they may offer. Nope. The worst part of the visit though was that no one else was on our floor and an empty room had a small electrical space heater. I picked this hostel cause I read it had heaters and was so tired of being in cold hostels. So, I took the space heater from the empty room and used it in ours to warm up the room for sleeping. The next day we were asked to remove the heater and the owner locked it in the other room where no one was staying and no one else needed the heater. Who does that?! We had to sleep with our bedroom door open so that the fire from the hallway could warm our room. I was so disappointed in the hosts. Upon checkout we also had an issue with the bus we were going to take to Cochabamba. It had broken down so we needed to stay longer by an hour or two in the hostel (we were out of our room and in the common area) to use WiFi and try and plan another bus. Anyway, they kept telling us to leave and that checkout was at ten and to go. We just didn't listen since we had to use the WiFi, we were paying customers, and NO ONE ELSE was...
Read moreI have been staying here for a week. I made a reservation for one night, and kept extending it. I do this when I find a place where I feel comfortable, welcome and at home. ||I walked into the room and it smelled naturally fresh and clean, and was full of light. It’s not huge but it’s ample. The bed is comfortable and laden with beautiful, handmade blankets which kept me plenty warm on some of the chillier nights. I never checked if the room is heated because I didn’t need to. The shower water was hot. Everything worked.||The wifi is Good!! It’s fast and reliable. I downloaded several shows and movies to watch later, since I know I can’t take good wifi for granted in Bolivia. ||The staff prepare a generous breakfast for 30 BL/day (not included in the room price) that I elected to spring for every morning. It comes with a personal Mokka pot full of tasty, Bolivian coffee, a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice, pancakes, toast and jam, cereal with yogurt, and fresh fruit. I’m someone who values their morning time and a complete breakfast, and I started each day feeling full and fresh after this breakfast, followed by a hot shower. ||The staff were very accommodating and quite friendly. I kept changing my checkout date and they remained flexible.||The hostel is about a five minute walk to the central market, where there is a promenade with lots of restaurants and cafes. If you would like to book a tour, they can put you in touch with some local agencies. ||I highly recommend Uyuni in general, and as the altitude and climate will probably sap some energy after a long day of viewing the myriad splendors of this region, it’s a good idea to choose Quinua Dorada as a place to recharge and prepare for another day of delightful...
