Pousada Vivenda Oriente is a beautiful flower surrounded by weeds. I say that because one should know what one is getting into when booking a vacation. The Pousada Vivenda Oriente is welcoming, well managed and delightful place to stay if one is looking for relaxation or dedicated time with family or loved ones. It is not the place for anyone looking for wild nightlife, fancy restaurants, Fifth Avenue style shopping or many other things someone from the United States often seeks in a resort. On the other hand, if one is looking to immerse him or herself in local culture, adventurous eating and learning more about a country most have only seen on National Geographic TV or some jungle movie Vivenda Oriente might be just your cup of tea. ||||The pousada is located in a small city about two hours down the Brazilian coast from Recife. It is located on the coast line on a coral protected bay or lagoon that changes dramatically with the tide. The waves will be crashing into the seawall at high tide, but one can walk to the reef at low tide. The local fishermen who anchor their boats just offshore from the hotel use the low tide as a nature dry dock, giving them the opportunity to clean the hulls of their boats. ||||The owner/operator of the hotel is a gracious hostess who makes each quest feel at home. Entertainment runs toward board games and DVD movies, but the hotel has an acceptable Wi-Fi network for most uses, and the tourist staying there has the opportunity to meet other guests from different parts of Brazil. Some of the neighbors also dine regularly at the pousada. Again, it is not for those who have been spoiled by all-inclusive Carribean or Mexican resorts, but it is very nice place. ||||One of the attractions is the restaurant. Many of the meals are prepared with meat and vegetables from the owner’s ranch and farm. It is very good, with one caveat. If one is a steak and potatoes person, he may not be in heaven, but he’ll be close. However, seasonings are very different from the U.S. This does not mean terribly spicy, but different. Being somewhat of a gustatorial adventurer will certainly help, but everyone can find something to eat. That something will be very good, unless everything needs to be covered in salt, pepper, catsup and what have you. Also, there is no menu per se, at least on my stay. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served as buffets. ||||The basic rooms are bit of negative for many U. S. visitors. They are only slightly larger than a large cabin on many cruises. The bathrooms are small as well, but as people are often wont to say, big surprises sometimes come in small packages. In this case the small room is completely overshadowed by the beauty of the pousada and unique view of Brazil one will have by visiting Pousada...
Read moreI could write about this place for days! I have had the distinct pleasure of leading mission teams to this area for 10 years now and we have never stayed anywhere else. It is a small, privately owned pousada, right on the beach, and the staff could not be more professional, caring, or courteous. Small boutique feel with beachfront views (hear the ocean from your bed at night with the door closed!), big clean swimming pool, and it is wonderfully landscaped. Great story, but they have lots of tame rabbits that just hop around the property, they may be lying in the lobby to get out of the sun or chasing each other around the pool. All the rooms have AC, TV, nice linens, and onsite bathrooms. The lobby, pool palapa, and beach hammocks give you a ton of places to have a good conversation, catch a nap, or read a book. The only thing better than the location, rooms, staff, amenities, or landscaping is the FOOD! We pay for the bkfst and dinners to be included and we have never been disappointed or had a single person lose weight while on our mission trips. Horrible to say when you are down there for a mission trip, but our meals and time at Vivenda Oriente have always been a highlight for all the Americans we have taken down to this part of Brazil. You know it is a great place when the Owners live on site and their extended family own the adjacent properties. They are invested in this community and they care what goes on there!! I personally guarantee you money-back if you go here and don't enjoy it just as much as 100's of our team members have over the years! True gem and God Bless Angela...
Read moreThe hotel was very clean, had great food, and the service is as all brazilian service is - excellent. The managers at the reception desk are very friendly and can give some good suggestions as to what other things one can do around the area during the day. I stayed in the largest suite they had with a jacuzzi with my wife. We had a wonderful time, the room was spacious (i can't speak for all the other normal size rooms), and very clean as well. In fact, we had a problem with the air conditioner in our room and they were quick to move us to another room. ||Compared to the other tourist cities close by, the only negative to this place is the landscape around it. The city of Sao Jose Da Coroa Grande is just an average small Brazilian town that doesn't really have too many things special about it; even the beach isn't that great. However, what makes this a wonderful place to stay is that it is cheaper compared to the other hotels at the really nice beaches and all the nice beaches in the area are within a hours drive. So if you don't mind driving 30mins - 1hour at the beginning of the day to enjoy some adventure, save your cash for the adventures and spend less at this hotel.||Be sure to get directions before hand, because it can be hard to find once inside the city of S. J. Da Coroa Grande.||||Overall, a great experience that exceeded my...
