We chose Pousada do Mel for our beach holiday based on the price and the photos of the smartly decorated hotel. We weren't disappointed. ||The budget boutique hotel is run by the very lovely Fernanda who has hospitality in her veins; she is charming, fluent in English, and offers great recommendations on restaurants and local attractions. Her staff are extremely friendly and attentive, and look after all of your desired food and room needs. ||The rooms are clean and comfortable, with lovely wooden shutters that open onto the landscaped courtyard. ||The pousada is located on the edge of the town, in the middle of all the shops and restaurants and next to the small night market. The market has great local street musicians playing at night, and for the fussy types, the noise can barely be heard from your room, and all the noise shuts down before midnight.||When we were there we got to witness a local artist painting a beautiful Iemanja portrait on the courtyard wall. Definitely worth a few photos. Iemanja is a water deity in the Yoruba religion, and the local festivals celebrating her honour in Arraial D'Ajuda and Bahia are a fantastic spectacle.||Cannot wait to...
Read moreI stayed there for 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay there. The owners are very friendly, it seems we were in their home. They were very helpful with indications of places to visit what to do there.||||It´s very well located, near the taxis, the village downtown and the beach. There are several restaurants and shops nearby.||||Breakfast at the hotel was simple but very nice. The owner herself makes different cakes every morning! It was all prepared with care. ||||the rooms were very simple too, but we found it very good cost-benefit, for a well-located place. Just the bed is a little bit noisy but I wouldn´t expect something much better in a "pousada" like that, and the same price.||||And don´t have to worry about the time you arrive at the airport - you can arrange a pick-up time 24 hours a day with the hotel, cheaper than the taxis. We arrived at 3 am and the owner was there waiting for us.||||I will definitely go back to this...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I just left Pousada do Mel and are already missing it. I usually never write reviews, but our stay was so amazing that I definitively think this one is worth it.||The current high ratings still don’t give sufficient credit to the kindness of the staff, a young couple and their cheerful helper. The location is just perfect, close to the city center and the bus station and a short walk away from the beach.||We left Arraial D’Ajuda for two days to visit Caraiva and the owner offered us to leave all our bulky baggage in the pousada. We happily agreed, and when we returned a few days later, she even came to my room to bring me a hot tea because she saw that I was coming down with a flu. ||The breakfast is excellent too (best coconut cake ever!), the rooms are spacious and the shower is nice and warm. I really couldn’t recommend this place more! It really was the highlight...
