Muffato Plaza Hotel — Hotel in Região Geográfica Imediata de Foz do Iguaçu

I'll start with the good things - the beds are very comfortable and breakfast is included (as with most Brazilian hotels). The cleaning is efficient and daily. It has free wifi. ||||Now the bad things...The first thing is that their breakfast offered some cakes and one of the plates was covered in ants. Not a single member of staff had bothered to check which made me worry about the state of the rest of the food. This should never ever happen. I also saw some small insects crawling around my room. ||||Secondly, for a hotel at a location that borders three countries, you would expect the staff to speak English. Not a single member of staff speaks English, including those at reception and the concierge when those are the ones you would think it was a minimum requirement. ||||The wifi is extremely intermittent and in the week that I had to stay here on business, I didn't bother facetiming my family once as it would basically be impossible. There is no hairdryer and nowhere to hang towels when having a shower (or at any other time). The hotel card often becomes invalid, meaning you reach your room and have to trek back to the reception to revalidate it - this is awful for a hotel! ||||I could probably say much more but this is a really bad hotel. Try the Rafain Palace Hotel next door, or even better somewhere downtown that is actually closer...

Stayed here for 5 nights. A mixed bag of good and bad points.||Bad:||Reception staff need customer care training - no welcome, no smile, no attempt to speak any language other than Portuguese. ||Security - no room safe - worse, when I went down to reception to ask if they could lock away my laptop they said the hotel doesn't have a safe. That in combination with the feeble loose door lock on the room meant I had to find another way to safeguard valuables. ||Breakfast coffee is awful considering this is Brazil, and the evening desserts are just sloppy mush and jelly.||It’s way out of town, too far to walk so you need a taxi (there’s a place just outside) or a bus (a stop right outside but you need the right change in local currency).||||Good:||The cleaners and the staff in the dining room are lovely, a real contrast to reception.||The room was better than these reviews had me believe; the beds were very comfortable, excellent quiet new aircon, a large fridge, wifi (not fast).||Breakfast is good with lots of fruit, lots of choice of hot and cold food. ||The pool looks good - we stayed in winter, so not tried.||The hotel is generally clean although you could find fault if...

The staff in the dining room and air conditioned rooms are the only saving graces for this place. The location is terrible- the room had a view of a junkyard/auto repair place, taxi's are very expensive to go into town (and you have to call ahead). The rooms were not super clean, when we arrived there was hair in the sink and on the floor, which remained for the whole stay. The internet was fine when it worked- but without notice it would stop working and go offline. There are maybe 10 TV channels that don't all come in completely clear. The pools were refreshing, but the chairs are hard plastic- not super comfortable to relax on. ||||That being said, the staff was accommodating and kind.
