These are the things wrong during our last stay at Luzeiros in São Luís, Maranhão: |* Check in process: We arrived at 1pm and it took 1 hour to go through the check-in line. Another 25 minutes to actually do the check-in. The reason, you may ask? The attendant kept getting on the phone and going in and out of their office during our interaction. Our room wasn’t ready so we waited another hour. I asked if we had to go back in line to pick up the key. He said now. When we returned, he sent us to the line. |* Room: We had the executive suite, so we expected top line service. Instead, we had to wipe down all surfaces once we saw that both night stands has sticky stains on them, from what we think were drinks (we hope so). Every wipe we used ended up brown with dust/dirt. |* Front desk service/bellmen service: We asked the front desk if we needed to bring our own luggage and they said no that the bellmen would bring up. We go up to the room to wait. Fifteen minutes passed by. Then thirty. I call the front desk, no answer. I call housekeeping, no answer. I call room service, no answer. I call my aunt to see if she can get a hold of them, so she calls from her own phone. They answer right away. She complains that we still have not received our luggage and that this is outrageous. We received our luggage 5 minutes later. No apologies from the Front Desk. |* Elevator: No AC - just two vents blowing hot air as you fight to get your room key to be scanned by the elevator machine so you can press your number. If your card doesn’t work, you have to stand on the side and ask for a new one. |* Hallways and public bathroom in lobby: No AC. Just enjoy the walk in these steamy common areas. |* Food: We had lunch while we waited for our food. The buffet had left-over, dried up food that had no taste and was chewy. The waiters all congregated around the cash register as people waited in line to pay their checks. When not there, they would run back to the kitchen. I had to go the kitchen to order our drinks. The waiter brought our drinks and never came back. |* Room service food: All their appetizers were salty but good. We ordered food with the pre-authorization to charge to our room. One of the attendants forced my husband to pay when she delivered the food. After calling the front desk 3 times to let them know, they finally answered and the issued was resolved. We tried to eat the food but the chicken soup and the strogonoff we’re sour, like they’ve gone back. We ate a little of their white rice and ask for a refund. That took another 40 minutes. We ordered 2 breakfasts orders on our last day for 4 people. I told them on the phone. They sent all quantities for 2 people. I felt defeated so I didn’t have energy to complain. |Here are a few of the things that went right: |* Laundry service: They were efficient and fast and responsive. |* Bartender service in the lobby: The attendant was very nice and service was fast |* Housekeeping: I would call every day to let them know to clean our room. They would do our bed and take out the trash. There was no mopping the floor or dusting done. |My conclusion: |* Luzeiros management knows that they are known to be the only good hotel in São Luís. They get business from people traveling for business and on vacation. I got the sense that they don’t care if they annoy people - they will get their money in any case because people don’t have a choice. |* They have the audacity to have deliver mediocre service with no guilt. |* For the amount of money we spent, next time we come, we’ll just rent a beach-front property and hire maid and...

Everything about this modern chic hotel is world-class.

Perfect location close to downtown and along the beach.

Excellent service all around ... from the welcome at reception to the dining experience.

We are still learning new words in Portuguese to improve our ability to communicate with the beautiful people of Brazil whom we have the pleasure & privilege to know along the way throughout our 5-month journey across this fabulous country ... and it is good to meet multi-lingual staff who are also fluent in English here at this hotel.

Food & beverage is very good ... carefully selected fresh ingredients professionally prepared and tastefully presented.

The view from our comfortable room (1012) on the 10th floor is spectacularly panoramic and we really enjoyed the luxurious feeling of taking a hot shower under the generous rain shower in the bathroom ... it's like standing under a gentle waterfall and you can also see the ships in the ocean while showering! :-)

Having a swim in the outdoor pool was a pleasant experience with the beach in the background and attentive staff to take care of our requests for something to eat and drink.

Trained as an architect, I must say that this relatively new hotel is a surprisingly well-designed building.

Its interior design is also exceptional in every way.

Management is evidently top notch based on how well the property has been maintained and the high quality of well-trained staff.

This property is definitely one of the best that you will find in Sao Luis.

From our experience, it is one of the best in terms of quality and value for money that you will find in...

This very pleasant hotel turned out to be our saviour, providing a much appreciated alternative to our dire first option hotel choice. From arrival, we appreciated our stay here. The front desk was very welcoming and efficient, the rooms were spacious and comfortable, the sea view and balcony provided valuable moments of deep relaxation, and the design and architecture ensured our calm and good humour. There is a great swimming pool, and even better, plenty of beach. The few drawbacks seem to apply to most hotels in Brazil. There is no iron and ironing board, which is important for many travellers if they need to look smart. The best option is to hang your clothes in the damp shower and give them a blast with the hairdryer before you go out. Also there are no tea and coffee facilities in the rooms and you must pay for water. The best fix here is to buy a big bottle of water and use the extra space in the minibar to keep it cool. Also there are loads of restaurants and bars nearby where you can grab a coffee. The breakfasts were a bit limited, with the best option being the omelette, cooked on the spot with a good choice of ingredients to add. Supplement this with some tapioca and fresh veg. There is also a good selection of coffees. In summary, I have no doubt, if I visit again, I will definitely stay here.

A new hotel on the beach in the beautiful city of Sao Luiz. Rooms are big and with new furniture. Nothing special. We booked the junior suite with sea view and the only thing that really took my attention was the view. Otherwise many problems with this hotel. Too many people visiting, too few working to help them, the reception is always full of people so its very unwelcoming, the elevators -they are just 4 for a huge builting- and the workers of the hotel use them all the time so you can wait 10 minutes or more for an elevator. Not a good experience even if its a new hotel with a nice location. Much needs to be done guys. And please somebody needs to speak English. After all you are a hotel.
