Pousada Praia do Flamengo — Hotel in Região Geográfica Imediata de Salvador

This pousada is conveniently located in Praia do Flamengo, possibly the safest beach in Salvador. Taxis from airport (use yellow common taxis!) are fast and just 65 BRL. Mini-shopping just 300 m away where you can watch novelas and have nice and cheap local food and açaí. Now the bad news: the pousada. It's true that their prices are competitive, but there's a limit. The service is rude, useless, and inflexible. No good morning, thank you for your stay... simply rude. The supposedly boss of the crew was even worse. The lady serving breakfast was extremely kind, I must say. Upon late check-in, they had a hard time finding our booking. Suggestion: phone well in advance to check your reservation but bad news again: their English or interest is close to zero. There's a hidden three-day towel change policy, which you will only discover after your wet/used towels have been piled up on the bathroom floor for almost two days... this "policy" is written in a document they preciously keep at reception desk. We told the reception guy they must mention this when checking in: he didn't care and carried on checking his computer. Room was adequate for price paid: large bed, flat TV, fridge... noisy and smelly aircon (filter check needed) and strong smell of cheap bleach. Squashed bugs on walls and ceilings (small blood stains can be spotted) should be removed. Linens/towels were stained and greyish. In short: unbeatable prices, horrible service. My friends who live in Brazil found Pousada Praia do Flamengo for me, so i booked without knowing what to expect. ||On arrival i was was greeted by the owners whom were extremely helpful and friendly. I am a not a perfect speaker of Portuguese but was lucky that one of the owners spoke English.||I got a choice of rooms to choose from, I just picked the first one to stay in. For only approx £30 a night i was amazed to see the size of my apartment. It was big and so clean it looked brand new. The bed was huge, it had a plasma TV on the wall plus all mod-cons AC,Fridge,TV,wi-fi.||There was a communal fridge and kitchen outside in the main block. The fridge was stocked with every type of drink you wanted which you can help yourself at anytime just write down what you take because there is a small charge.||For breakfast there was a choice of fresh breads, cold meats, cheese and fresh fruit. For drink you can have fresh coffee or a choice of fresh juice sqeezed every morning.||The location of the Hotel is about 30mins from Salvador city centre on the bus. The bus stops nearly outside the pousada. The area is really secure and on the most beautiful beach which comes alive on Saturdays.||I would recommend anybody to stay here.||Great Place.||I have left the lady owner my English translation book which she said by next time i come...

Fuimos a Brasil a reunirnos con la familia. Nos alojamos en este hotel cercano a la ciudad para utilizarlo como campamento base de las diferentes excursiones previstas. Tras las 4 noches pagadas por anticipado, nos mudamos a otro hotel cercano porque:||||- Las habitaciones no tienen ventana. Tienen una puerta partida, de forma que puedes abrir la mitad superior si quieres que entre luz, pero como dan a un patio común, no tienes intimidad. Por supuesto, son muy húmedas y huelen a humedad.||- Las habitaciones no tienen cerradura, si no un cerrojo con un candado por la parte exterior. Para dormir por la noche el proceso es: Cierra la mitad inferior de la puerta, pon el candado por fuera, y cierra la parte superior de la puerta.||- Esa misma puerta partida tiene como un centímetro de separación entre las mitades, y desde fuera se veía el interior de la habitación perfectamente, incluso a tres metros. Nos tocaba poner bolsas o toallas para tapar semejante rendija.||- Cuando volvíamos de la playa por la tarde, la puerta de nuestra habitación (y de todas) estaba abierta de par en par "para que se ventilen", con todas nuestras cosas a la vista! Surrealista, pero cierto.||- Además, aunque no dejasen la puerta abierta, siempre siempre dejaban la llave de la habitación puesta en el candado!! Milagro que no nos robara nadie nada.||- El desayuno siempre es: dos lonchas de jamón york, una de queso, dos rebanadas de pan de molde, café, y algo de fruta. A veces un bollo o unas galletas dietéticas.||- Mi cuñada, con su hijo de tres años pagaba lo mismo por su habitación que las habitaciones dobles, sin embargo en el desayuno sólo le ponían la mitad, y lo tenía que compartir con el niño.||- En el baño no hay toalleros, y nos dijeron que es que en Brasil no era costumbre, como si fuéramos idiotas. Además, sólo daban toalla de baño, pero no toalla de manos.||- Ni en el baño ni en la habitación hay enchufes! Sólo el de la nevera y el televisor. Tenías que desenchufar uno de los dos para poder cargar el móvil, y afeitarte de rodillas.||- No había agua caliente, y nos dijeron que es que no podíamos ducharnos dos huéspedes a la vez porque no había energía eléctrica suficiente.||- Internet por wifi era bastante bueno, pero no había cobertura en la habitación y había que salir al patio para poder navegar.||- Las sábanas tenías montones de manchas. La de la almohada tenía manchas de sangre! Pedimos que las cambiaran y nos pusieron otras que estaban limpias, pero llenas de manchas de mil años.||||Cosas buenas:||||- El colchón. La cama era buena, las cosas como son.||- Internet iba rápido. Pude hablar por voz IP sin problemas.||- El patio disponía de una mesa y sillas así que pudimos hacer alguna cena tranquila en él. Además, tenían a disposición de los huéspedes un microondas, un grill, cubiertos, platos, etc.||||En resumen, más que un hotel es una casa de huéspedes administrada por una señora uraña y poco amable, que deja claro que esa es su casa y tú te aguantas con lo que hay.
