I was booked into this hotel for university work, and for that purpose, it was fine. The staff are very nice and try their best to make your stay comfortable but there are a few things that do make the hotel one of the most basic and spartan hotels I have stayed in for a long time. To begin with, the rooms are very basic. You are allowed one bath towel and one small hand towel. They will be replaced each day if you remember to leave them on the shower floor. The linen on the beds is clean and beds are made up nicely each day. There is a mini bar but the prices are steep, so I only used it to store my own things. The hotel is very dated and "worn" but the worst part is the acoustics. The dormitory like hallways are full of echoes and can be clearly heard from each room. Worse, the roof is like paper and since I was on the bottom floor, i had the privilege of hearing the woman in high heels clomping back and forth on her wooden floors from 6 am to 8 am on the one morning I was able to sleep in. I also had the privilege of hearing her use the toilet as clearly as if I were in her bathroom, and the joy of hearing every word of the man's phone conversations in the room next to me. The lobby is attractive (more than the rest of the hotel) and the breakfasts are nicely appointed with a good variety of foods. I only ate in the restaurant for one dinner and it was very disappointing. The problem is that there are no other restaurants nearby and so you have to rely on local hosts to take you to restaurants, all good ones of which are a considerable drive from the hotel and would make taxis an expensive endeavour. In addition, the restaurant is closed on weekends, so there really is no eating option for Saturday and Sunday. My summary is this: if you have university work to do, this hotel makes sense, but be prepared for a spartan and basic environment and ensure your hosts have arranged transport for...
Read moreThis hotel for visiting professors is convenient for persons going to the UNICAMP campus. We enjoyed the 15 minute walk each morning. Between the hotel and the campus we always saw some sort of interesting plant or exotic birds.||The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are okay, and would probably be a 2 star category by European standards. We stayed in two different rooms and in neither one did the air conditioning work (and it was summer and very hot) and the bulbs were burnt out of the lamps and the replacement lamps didn't work. The rooms have free wi fi and that always worked. Breakfast is included with the room and there was always at least fresh slices of papaya and pineapple, sometimes also watermelon, and freshly squeezed orange juice, which was a great way to start the day. The rest was so so. They have a restaurant, which seems clean and offers a choice of 2 kinds of soups and a simple salad buffet each night for a set price; one can also order something from the kitchen at additional cost. They also had a few sorts of desserts and good espresso.||||There is a medium-sized and clean-looking outdoor pool. But we had work to do each day on campus and didn't have a chance to...
Read moreI sojourned at Unicamp's CPV for several nights and enjoyed the stay. The hotel room is basic with twin beds and frugal bathroom. The room is clean and well maintained although the shower takes a long time to deliver hot water. Construction outside my room woke me up in the morning. The restaurant is nice. I dined there most evenings and they had a vegan soup option each day plus I had the salad and either the eggplant or zucchini stack each day. The restaurant is rather quiet but the service is quick and friendly. The restaurant staff don't speak English or French or anything other than Portuguese, it seems, but they have an English-language menu.||Check-in and check-out were quick. Internet was fine in my room, the restaurant and the lobby. The hotel is on the campus and in a guarded, fenced area along with Funcamp, which means it is Unicamp's Foundation, not that it is a place for frivolity.||The hotel is a long walk from the centre of Barão Geraldo, which has good restaurants, bars and shopping. I recommend the hotel for someone visiting the campus but it feels rather isolated in...
