On the 21st of october, 2019, me and a group of about 30 students of Escola Internacional de Alphaville´s 8th grade went on a trip to Parque Estadual Turístico do Alto Ribeira (PETAR) in São Paulo. We left the school early in the morning and headed to Pousada das Cavernas, our lodging for the next three days, which was very close to the park. We made one stop along the way, the journey is a bit tiring, but with friends it passes by very quickly.||After the 5-hour trip, we reached the hostel. It was composed by several different buildings which included: a cafeteria with a little external lounge and bar, TV room, game room, steam room (next to a beautiful natural pond), and, obviously, the guest´s rooms, which were not big and neither small, me and my other 2 friends could comfortably stay together in it, the only problems we had with our lodging were: the cushions and pillows were very dirty, I luckly brought my own pillow and bedding, besides that, the shower actually fell off the wall and we had to bath in other rooms, the room had an air conditioner but, unfortunately, it did not work. The food of the hostel was incredible, with great variety and quality. ||On the second day, we visited the caves Água Suja and Santana. On the first we had the opportunity to see the structure of a cave, to contemplate the dark and quietness of one, and to get through tight paths full of stalactites, besides being able to enter a small waterfall inside the Água Suja. In Santana cave, were able to see the incredible formations of a cave, how such things are created, the impact of humans and the life forms within a cavern.|| On the last day, we went to a cavern called Alambari de Baixo, in which we had to enter freezing cold water in order to reach the cave´s end. From there we headed back to the hostel, packed up and left. Before heading home, our group visited Caverna do Diabo, were we able to see the mesmerizing beauty of a cavern.||If you like trips packed with lots of adventures then you will certainly love PETAR. There, you can not only see the true beauty of caves, but also learn a lot about them. In conclusion, I do really recommend a visit to Parque Estadual Turístico do Alto Ribeira, it´s a cultural and extremely fun adventure that´s...
Read moreWe stayed in a luxury room, me, my wife and 8 year old son. The room was nice and it was apparent that a special effort was made to provide amenities beyond your typicsal simple pousada.||We were in a block with 4 rooms that had a large varanda that could be used to lay out wet clothing from a day exploring the caves.||When we made the reservations, we were told that the pousada provided hardhats and flashlights as a courtedy to their huests. Unfortunately, this was not the case so we had to scramble to obtain flashlights and batteries. ||The breakfast is a bit below average. They also don't start serving very early which is a problem on holiday weekends and lines form early in the park.||The packed lunch they provide could be better, but after a long morning of hiking and exploring caves, your pretty hungry so will eat just about anything.||Dinner on the other hand was very good.||One thing that was irritating was that they charged a 10% service charge at check out. This is not typical of a pousada. I consider this a ploy that sometimes happens in Brasil. They place the charge without saying anything in the hopes that it is simply paid. If you question it, they say it is optional in the hopes that you are shamed into paying it.||I take the opportunity here to recommend a local guide who we thought was excellent. His name is Aginaldo but everyone calls him Tio. His cell phone is 015 996768798. His home phone is 015 997988764. If you have trouble getting through to him just ask the pousada to reserve...
Read moreWe stayed at this lodge in June. We went to visit some caves from PETAR. The localization of the lodge was good, near some attractions.||You have some options, some facilities like dinner (so you can eat when you return from the activities) and a snack (to take with you and eat during the day, since there is no restaurants in PETAR).||The rooms are OK (but the floor is without pavement) clean and rustic but the weather doesn't help, it's excessively humid. My only complain is the air conditioning, which only cools the room temperature but not heat it. It was autunm/winter around 17ºC each night, and we wanted a warm place.||The region of PETAR needs better road and internet infrastructure. The road is gravel, street lights are scarce and there is no traffic sign. There is only 1 network operator (and bad signal) so, you can see why internet is bad, specially with many guests. So the lodge can't take the blame.||It seems very crowded at public holidays. ||It's a bit expansive when you compare to another cities of Brazil, but due to difficult access and tourist destination, I think the price is fair, except the 10%...
