A smallish hotel in the heart of Sorocaba and just 3 buildings away from the City's impressive Cathedral..the latter of which sounds it's bells at 6am, midday and 6pm every day and can be heard in most of the hotel rooms, so be warned. It personally didn't bother me, as I sleep well, but it's something to consider if you're a light sleeper. The rooms are fairly small & basic in decor but ours we're all clean & functional, facilities include, comfortable king size beds (although those on the top floor (9) are queen sized, TV (although limited English speaking with just CNN & one other US channel) fridge, air conditioning, some rooms include safes (not all, so ask) and free WiFi throughout the building. ||The restaurant is situated on the first floor above reception, and serves a small but comprehensive collection of Brazilian dishes, which are also available via "room service" ||The hotels small bar is situated within the restaurant. This was not open every night during our stay, so if you enjoy an evening drink enquire at reception as to it's opening times or buy some for your room and keep it in the fridge (which I did, cheaper & more convenient too) the breakfast is held in the restaurant/bar area, a good range of food is on offer (typically Brazilian), with hot & cold meats, cheese, fresh rolls, cheese balls, cereals, toast, cakes, jams, coffee, teas, fresh fruit, etc...and there is certainly plenty of it as it is constantly topped up.||The hotel's location I found ideal, situated right on the City's main square (also free council provided WiFi here too) and is perfect for restaurants, fast food and shopping, with numerous shops, an indoor market (open every day) just 3 mins away down the street and two mins further on the City's new shopping mall (located in a huge old industrial building) ||Although the vast majority of staff speak very little English and with our limited knowledge of Portuguese too, communication wasn't always that easy (but often funny), despite this we found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. ||As with most Brazilian City's, security during the hours of darkness is often a concern, the square adjacent the hotel is obviously a focal point and does seem to attract a few local "night dwellers" so as a precaution (unless in a taxi), we never ventured out at night (but this is just common sense and no different to any other place in South America) The hotel reception itself is manned 24/7, there is CCTV installed and the doors are locked and monitored at night anyway. ||If you research Sorocaba on the internet you will find it is known as one of the safest City's in Brazil and during our 2 week stay here we saw no evidence of any crime or violence. Yes, during the day the square sometimes holds the occasional (official) protests, but aside from that it is generally frequented by just buskers & the odd religious nutcase.||Our overall opion of the Hotel was very good, it ticked all the boxes except one, for the first week we stayed on the 4th floor (404) which have tiny balconies, but we managed to change rooms to the top floor (9) for our second week...These have a good sized balcony with great views over the City. Now this is our second time here and on our first visit there used to be some plastic patio furniture on the balcony, table & chairs? But in it's wisdom for some reasons the Hotel has decided to remove them? In my opinion this is a mistake, they've effectively reduced a selling feature as so often on our last visit we sat outhere to enjoy the sun or cool of evening.....So come on Cardum Hotel, reconsider this decision and reinstate them and I just might consider awarding you 5...
Super recomendo o hotel e espero...
