Katalina Resort — Hotel in Batak

This is the worst experience that I have ever had. I wouldn’t give this hotel even 1 star.

Rooms: the room is very small with no wardrobe. The heating in the room was turned on and cannot be regulated, so we had to sleep with the door opened. The terrace door was broken and cannot be opened from the upper end. The light on the terrace was not working and there is a huge nest on it, not sure what animal was living there. The bathroom was really small, no place ti comfortably take a shower. The lid on the bathroom cannot stay at the upper position. The light of the bathroom is with a sensor and it turns off when you stay a while in the bathroom. The lid of the drain stick on your foot and it opens up and you can see the discussing stuff inside. The faucet is installed wrong, the hot water comes out from the hot water faucet and the other way around. The door of the rood does not work with the card, only with the key.

Restaurant: the food was disgusting and tasteless. The place where the food tables were very crowded and the food finishes and you cannot take what you want unless you are there at the opening hour. The restaurant is full of flies which bugs you and land on your food.

SPA: absolutely disgusting place with black mold and in a very bad condition. There was no staff you can turn to. No glasses for the water, no towels, no showers. The robes were old, smelly and with holes. The beds in the relax zone were broken and dirty. Relax zone was full of flies, dirt and was cold. The steam room does not have any steam and was having holes and dirt everywhere.

Overall: there is no management available on site and no compensation whatsoever for the inconvenience… Please do...

For this price I didn't expect much, but certainly didn't expect that. The deluxe one-bedroom suite actually is just a spacious room with a double bed and two sofa-beds and nice terrace with panoramic view towards the reservoir. The TV was LCD with 90's picture quality. The bathroom had hydro massage bath tube. Didn't try it, tho, since the "hot" water was just a couple of degrees warmer than the cold. And the towels had dark stains on them. The toilet wasn't very useful either, because flushing it didn't do much. And the door to the bathroom was made of glass, couldn't be fully closed or locked, which is not convenient for families with little kids. The first thing I have noticed when entered the restaurant for dinner was the music. It was what one can describe with the term "mazna chalga" and totally was not suitable for quiet dinner. Which was not so big issue, because we left rather fast, after we realized the food is cold and part of it looked a few days old. On the contrary, the breakfast had some really good hits, like home made mekitsas. Aside from that, the staff was overall friendly. They heard our complaints, confirmed the hot water is unlikely to be found when there are more people in the hotel and promissed to talk with the cooks. My only note is for the cleaning lady, who decided to move some of my clothes from the bed to the floor. As a verdict, I wouldn't recommend the place...

Overall the hotel was nice. The room we stayed in was a little cold, but they provided a heater. The bathroom was a little small but you don't need too much when you are on vacation. The SPA zone was great. The gym needs improvement - way too small, not a lot of equipment and very cold. The massage therapist was great - wonderful energy and provides true relaxation. The restaurant was nice - the food was great, there was variation. The hotel needs a little bit of touch ups, however. There are a lot of cosmetic issues. In our room there was cold air coming from below the balcony door, the TV was henging by a thread, the door of the bathroom was coming undone. The warm connection between the hotel and the complex needs to be fixed - there was melting snow getting in which is very inconvenient because everything is slippery and is very uncomfortable if you want to walk in slippers or light shoes (specifically in the winter of it is raining). It was very calm, there weren't a lot of guests at the time we stayed so can't complain about bad neighbors. The location of the hotel is magnificent - you can see the entire area, very beautiful. Overall a good experience, however I have an advice - the little details make the whole experience better. Things like cold rooms without air-conditioning, old and not renovated facilities take away from the beauty...
