City Hotel — Hotel in Pleven

I haven't spent a great deal of time in Bulgaria, but we happened upon the Hotel City during our brief stay in Pleven a few weeks ago. Let me just say that Pleven is a lovely little city that seems in a constant state of renovation. The town square is recently redone and beautifully laid out. Don't hesitate to spend some time there if you're visiting the country.||||So the Hotel City is probably the best there is in Pleven, or at least top three. We stayed in the studio suite, which was two full rooms and incredibly spacious (and with a deck). The views are not spectacular, but no matter. The website says it can sleep four, which is a generous interpretation of the space; besides the bed in the bedroom (which I'll get to), there are a couple of quasi couches your buddies could sleep on. Really, it's a good room for couples (except for that bed--which I'll get to). And whatever the cost was (I don't quite remember) was very reasonable for the luxury suite, as per Bulgaria. The room was clean and didn't smell like cigarettes (a huge plus) and the hotel quiet and staff perfectly nice.||||So that bed...I've never had a bed that bad in a hotel, and so the full deduction of a point from my rating. The decrepit old dame Waldorf Astoria in NYC was maybe as bad, but it's hard to compete. The mattress at the Hotel City was literally warped such that the middle of the bed was raised a good couple of inches from the top and bottom. Then there's a divot in the middle so that you and your partner can be closer together, whether you want to or not!||||Dear Hotel City--you have a very nice room up there, a clean premises, and a very pleasant atmosphere. How about you invest in a new bed...or an old one--just something flat--and increase the quality of stay for guests?||||Anyway, I recommend the Hotel City, regardless. This ain't New York (and even there there are a billion crappy hotels...)||||Oh, and try all the banitsa you can...

We stayed in January so you can imagine not so many tourists around. We paid 150 euro for 2 nights without breakfast included. Shower leakage still an issue and TV channels although many had poor reception. Same room on booking.com or the likes much cheaper. Very poor as could get the Hilton in Sofia for the same rate. Staff were friendly. But they are taking the piss due to the lack of decent hotels in the town. I paid 50 euro in Ireland only a week ago and the hotel in general was of a much higher standard and breakfast was included. Bathroom was also of a higher standard. My advice Book it but get a...

El hotel está relativamente cerca del centro... A nuestra llegada no tuvimos problemas para aparcar si bien, a pesar de disponer de parking no pudimos acceder a él pues el personal no hablaba absolutamente nada de inglés (desconocemos si al final había parking).||El precio a pagar nos lo escribió en un papel... De otra manera, difícil la comunicaciones.||El hotel estaba totalmente en tinieblas. Iluminación la justa. Escasa. Desconozco los motivos.||Hacia bastante calor en el hotel... Hasta que llegamos a la habitación. Sorpresa la nuestra... No funcionaba el aire acondicionado. No pudimos hacerlo funcionar... Pero que podíamos hacer si la persona de recepción no tenía manera de comunicarse?? Obviamente abrimos la ventana, con el riesgo de que entrasen los mosquitos (que por cierto, hay muchisimosssss!).||La habitación era pequeña (la 108). Malamente podíamos movernos con las maletas... En booking y otras plataformas aparece una foto de ensueño... Pero no!!!||Las toallas estaban "tostadas", amarillas del uso... Y el baño un desastre. La ducha no echaba un chorro bueno, y la limpieza brillaba por su ausencia.||Fuimos a cenar... Y sorpresa!!!! Un señor de mantenimiento estaba en otra habitación... Todo empezaba a cuadrar. ||A la vista de las opiniones con el desayuno, no lo cogimos. Preferimos ir a un 24 hrs y coger lo justo, café, bollos y zumo. Visto lo visto...||||Hemos estado viajando por los Balcanes y sin duda alguna el peor hotel de todos.||Repetir, pues claro que no!!!||Puse mi opinión en la plataforma donde hice la reserva y el director me mando un mensaje que no tiene desperdicio...(si Tripadvisor me lo autoriza lo colgaré).||||En fin... Hay mejores hoteles a mejor...
