Moreni — Hotel in Sofia City

I stayed 2 nights at the hotel and had breakfast and dinner included in the restaurant as part of a group package. I gave the hotel 2 stars because the hotel rooms are nice, but the customer service is atrocious.

First day, we specifically asked the manager to save some breakfast for our group, as our climb to the top early in the morning took longer than we calculated. They assured us that they will save our breakfast. When we got back, the breakfast amount was barely enough for 3 people, so we were rationing our portion to 2 slices of cucumber, 2 slices of tomato, one boiled egg and a spoonful of yogurt. Obviously, we figured, the restaurant is probably hit by the high inflation and they are minimizing the quantity. Afterwards, I took a lukewarm shower in my hotel room. For some mysterious reason, there was NO hot water, only lukewarm. I was freezing. I attempted to use the spa to warm up downstairs, but all the facilities (the sauna was OFF, the steam room was OFF, and the jacuzzi was filled with dirty water). There was no one at the spa. Oh well. (I was informed much later that we have to make a special request for them to turn on the spa and wait 20 min).

That same evening, for dinner, we were served amount of food for 4 people, not 7 (we were 7 people in our group). So even though we prepaid for breakfast and dinner, the amount of portions were definitely not enough. So 3 people from our group ended up purchasing our own dinner.

Another incident happened that same evening that needs mentioning. Our group was right outside of the spa, dancing. A waitress finally appeared after an hour and I ordered a beer. 45 minutes later, she was nowhere in site. However, at the time of checkout next day, the receptionist tried to charge for that beer! The waitress was summoned and she maintained that she “left” the beer inside somewhere on a table in the spa. When I told the receptionist that I haven’t consumed the beer, instead of believing the client, she was unprofessional and rude and threatened that she will review the video camera footage! Seriously?! (I encouraged them to review the footage, but the bad taste in my mouth of the low-class treatment was palpable! Why on earth would I pay 600 leva for 2 night and try to “steal” a freaking beer for 4 leva?! It makes zero sense).

Finally, we were promised a late check out, but it turns out that the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. For a small hotel, the management is very disorganized and it comes across as petty.

If this hotel is pretending to be of some class, the management indeed has to seriously think about training their employees to behave like professionals.

See .... …. The hotel has an elegant style, its design creates a feeling of coziness, emphasizing the elements of wood, stone, natural textiles, imitations of goat fur, white carpet. .... …. Gondola cabin in front of the hotel, ski lift chairs in front of the restaurant against the background of photo wallpaper with ski slopes - very nice and fun spots for Instagram; …. Great view from the apartments on the 3rd floor to the Balkan Mountains. There is a similar view from the lobby bar and the restaurant; …. Greasy, uncleaned tables at the lobby bar. This problem was not a one-off, but a permanent one. Despite of the nice lobby design, the dirty tables spoil the impression

Feel …. .... Like the staff does not care how the customers feel. In general they do not care much for masks and Covid-19 protecion. .... Complete lack organization at the buffet breakfast. Since the hotel is declared as a SPA hotel and it even offers a SPA apartment, I warn that there is no pool, but only a larger Jacuzzi, in which approx. 6-7 people can fit.

Hear …. …. The typical music for the hotels - arrangements of hits in a slow rhythm, pleasant and relaxing; …. Complete silence in the evening, the mountain kept our sleep.

Smell .... …. The beef sausage had good spices and was delicious; …. The pork ribs smelled like a refrigerator and weren't good at all.

…. The risotto with chicken was rather boiled rice - neither the rice was a variety for the risotto, nor the cooking technology was followed; …. In no case do not order poke with jasmine rice, salmon, octopus, which the waiter recommended to me.

Who ever made this Hotel put a lot of thought in to it. Location is on top of mountain with beautiful view. The rooms are beautiful and high tech. Unfortunately what is lacking is the biggest secret ingredient which is a huge downfall for this place. Customer service and Staff friendliness. From the beginning of our arrival we got to the reception to check in. We were given the key and that’s it. The girl didn’t tell us where to go to get to our room, where the spa is. Nothing. Not a major deal but thought I would mention it so they can improve on that. What really killed the whole experience for me and my wife is when we went to the restaurant. There was no one there, so we explored the area and I saw one of those cheep Coffey machine dispensers that u get for like a buck or two. I made myself a Coffey and an ANGRY woman comes in telling that the machine is only for breakfast use and that I am not aloud. My wife who speaks Bulgarian told her that I was sorry and that I didn’t know. She then proceeds to tell us that the machine was covered for that sole purpose. However when I used the machine there was no cover on it. Anyway, the whole point is that she made me feel like some criminal for poring a cheap Coffey that she latter charged us a major premium price for it and saying there is nothing she can do about it. It ruined our whole romantic mood just cause of this cheep 1 lev Coffey that you drink at a buss stop. On another note, apparently there is no manager in the hotel which was conveyed to us by one of the staff members. Another thing I thought I would give you a heads up. The hotel is a spa, however please take a note that when we went to the jacuzzi it smelled like a dirty puddle. I’m not an expert in jacuzzis however when Ive used them in the past I don’t remember them smelling so bad. When me and my wife got out immediately out and tried to take a shower to get the smell out, they didn’t have soap in any of the showers. Looks like they been...
