The breakfast omelette and the dinner steak is pretty decent (don't bother asking about the doneness though; you get what you get).||||I asked a few questions here on TripAdvisor before I left to stay at this hotel but never got a reply so I'll answer my own questions.||||Do the TVs have HDMI in?||- The TVs are those old CRT TVs and may not work. Didn't test ours but the one in our friends' room did not work.||||What kind of power sockets are in the room.||- An integrated universal 3 pin socket, with a 2 pin socket just above it (a 3 pin multi socket adapter is large enough to cover that 2 pin socket)||||Are there ethernet ports in the room?||- Lol no. Does have wifi though and it went down once during our 7 days stay. Speeds are between decent and poor and vary throughout the day.||||Is the wifi limited to a certain number of devices?||- Not at all||||Do VPNs works with the wifi?||- Yes. Yes they do.||||Do power outages occur?||- Lights flicker and dim now and again. The computers at the front desks have UPSes so I guess that at the very least, brown outs do occur.||||Can it get cold at night?||- Yes. This is because the actual location gets pretty cold at night, and there is no remote for the aircon. The remote there doesn't work and the aircon would not respond to the remote app on my Samsung Galaxy S5 (it has an IR transmitter).||||So in answering my own questions, you can get an idea of what kind of place this is. ||||There were holes in the false ceiling of our bathroom and there was even a toothbrush stuck in the false ceiling. ||||Our room was not ready by the time we arrived to check in. When it was finally ready, we had to move our beds further apart and when we did, we found insane amounts of dust and dirt had been swept underneath the beds. ||||The bedsheets were not changed daily (my medicine has stained the sheets and I saw the bed made but the stain still there). ||||Towels were replaced or simply refolded, regardless of whether we hung them up or left them on the floor. (There was a sign urging guests to reuse their towels). I'm not sure if these were fresh towels.||||The hot water stopped working on the last 2 days of our stay. The water pressure on the 4th floor is weak but not unusable. The water tastes like rust so I used my portable water filter to filter the tap water into a bottle before brushing my teeth and washing my face. For some reason, the water from the sink faucet burned my face.||||The lift always seems to be broken down in the mornings. I have to walk down everyday to inform the front desk to fix it.||||Overall, this wasn't the best of hotels. A more reasonable price would be $30. ||||The people are...
Read moreIt's not all bad but very much in need of some revitalization. Although the front doesn't look to bad with its typically Asian heavily accented wooden décor, it's the rooms themselves that need upgrading. The shower in our bathroom was fixed over the old bathtub at about chin height. Okay, you could use it as a hand held shower, but even with the plastic curtain water went everywhere. The sink basin was badly chipped and the floor drain exposed. Also initially could not get any hot water - until I discovered you had t flick the black switch near the top of the bathroom door t turn on the heater. Would have thought they would have automatically done that for you when they took your bags to the room or at least explained the process at check in. Sleep quality was good. It was very quiet even though it is on a main road about 30 minute walk into the centre of town. Plenty of tuk tuks if you want to spent the $3 instead of walking. Breakfast was satisfactory but don't leave it too late as they didn't appear to restock the buffet regularly. The pool area was pleasant but no bar service so if you wanted a drink you had to catch a house maid or maintenance staff and have them organise someone to come and see you. All in all, it did the job and was not the worst place I've ever stayed but there are far better choices available...
Read moreI stayed at some great hotels while in Cambodia, but not this one. Here is a short list of the issues I encountered here during a two night stay: shower had poor water pressure and the hot water lasted maybe two minutes; some of my laundry was accidentally given to another guest; the pool had no water (and we really needed a pool with the heat); the buffet breakfast was not provided one of the mornings (not enough guests apparently); cockroaches galore; the third floor WiFi simply did not work (had to use the fourth floor's outside of the room); the bathroom and bathtub layout made no sense and water pooled on the floor; instructions not to clean/make bed were ignored and wash towels were ignored; water was four times as expensive as the store just three doors down; no alarm clocks provided in the rooms.. I could go on. It is also worth noting that, location wise, Freedom Hotel is actually outside of Siem Reap, so count on a 30 minute walk or a tuk tuk ride to get into town. There were some saving graces: the rooms did have air conditioning, and working electrical outlets. And, while not necessarily competent, the staff were at least very friendly. However, there have got to be better options than this for booking your stay, so I suggest other potential guests...
