We arrived in Siem Reap to a very unfortunate set of circumstances that led us to having to find an alternative hotel. We came upon The Golden Citadel after searching the internet and whilst it’s not near the markets and pub street we opted for it as a lot of reviews of hotels close to the pub street complained of noise till 4am. It’s not even 10 minutes away but in a very quiet area. It’s a lovely little family run hotel and right from the minute you arrive you can see the personal attention given by the lovely owners. All the staff are also extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. It’s a small hotel with approximately 27 rooms. The rooms are spacious with aircon, WiFi and a good size balcony. The en suite bathroom is also an excellent size with bath and shower. Breakfast was included in our rate and the room rate was the best we had found! They have a wonderful swimming pool which is spotlessly clean and well maintained with pool loungers and towels and surrounded by lovely greenery to provide that that tropical feeling and privacy. Breakfast whilst there is a small menu is good and freshly cooked for you. You have to try the pancakes and honey. We simply loved the 10 days we spent here and would come back in a heartbeat. Access into the center and Pub street is very easy as the little Tuk Turks wait outside the hotel and whisk you into the center for only 2 dollars one way or 5 dollars if you want him to wait and take you back to the hotel. We normally don’t book tours through the hotels but their tours were so reasonable that we did and we were so happy. Thank you Golden Citadel for making our first visit to Cambodia...
Read moreFantastic family run hotel! After a disastrous experience at another hotel in Siem Reap, we came across the Golden Citadel and what a fantastic find! It’s a wonderful family run hotel. The rooms are spacious and modern with large bathrooms with shower and bath and each room has private balcony overlooking the pool with table and chairs where you can relax. Breakfast is ordered from a menu and not buffet. The pancakes and honey are to die for and the coffee good and strong. The fantastic thing there is as well, that there are always a few Tuk Tuks outside ready to take you anywhere for only a couple of dollars. Whilst the hotel is a few km away from the bustling Pub street, it’s only a 5 minute drive by Tuk Tuk, but you are assured a good nights sleep as there is no loud music from the busy Pub street. You definitely don’t need to hire a scooter or take expensive taxis...the Tuk Tuks take you anywhere including day trips to Ankor Watt etc., so we definitely found the situation of the hotel down this quiet street a big plus for us. Would definitely highly recommend this hotel, especially at the very reasonable rate they charge. We are staying there again on our way through Cambodia in a week...
Read moreWe have just stayed here for 2 nights...arrived around 7.30 to find the restaurant closed..the hotel is down a dark little side road in a not overly pleasant part of town with very few things to offer tourists ( you will need a $2 tuk tuk ride to find somewhere ) .||The rooms are larger than most but devoid of any character or creature comforts..the air con vents into the hallway so it’s like an oven when you step outside, the bathroom is a wet room affair that floods to the centre of the room and there is one little pillow each on the bed. It is fairly clean but definitely not a 4 star...more a 2 star. ||If you want zero frills and just a roof over your head and a bed it’s the one for you...if you want a hotel near the centre and with a few creature comforts and some soul look elsewhere.||Not a bad hotel but not somewhere I’d...
