Koalama Cambodia — Hotel in Koh Rong Sanloem

So let's start with the fact that the ferry from Sihanoukville does not stop in this part of the island. To get here you have to take either a taxi boat or a private boat which can be very expensive (typical scam for tourists). As soon as I arrived I was greeted by André who was welcoming and friendly. As soon as I was given the room I informed the reception that the locker that belonged to my bed was locked. At first they thought that a guest had forgotten the combination of the lock so they broke it, only to find out that it actually belonged to another guest. The manager (French man) said that I would have to deal with the guest who owned the bag inside the locker (even though I did nothing). In the end André solved the problem.

As for the room: there is no air conditioning so it is unbearably hot. The mosquito nets are useless because I was eaten alive. The shower does not have hot water (which is not necessarily a bad thing since it is very warm). The bathrooms are also very dirty and often there is no toilet paper.

I cannot speak more highly of my stay at Koalama. The owner, who has newly brought this place to life, is lovely and his chill but thoughtful vibe radiates through the place. I stayed in both the dorm and a private bungalow and loved both. The entire bay has the perfect chill and rustic atmosphere, but this location was at the edge of the main beach strip which made it quiet even if something was going on around town. The common areas are fairly social with folks sitting around reading, playing pool, or doing yoga - so it was perfect for traveling solo to make friends. Wonderful time in Koalama Hostel ! Best hostel in town, on the beach and one of the best you will discover !! You will meet many many games to play (pool table, frog game, chest, darts, society games even Nintendo switch ...). Best quality price balance ! Very good dorm with your own little fan with electricity access. The best in my opinion is the hammock dorm with the best hammock you have ever seen !!
