I write this with some trepidation as I understand how poor reviews can affect a business, but I feel I have to share to prevent a similar experience for guests.||Basically, myself and my partner checked in after being picked up at the airport by the hotel. ||I class myself as a seasoned traveller, especially in Asia and always use a safe to keep my money. In this instance, the safe wasn't really fit for purpose as I was able to pick it up and remove with ease. ||I decided to keep all my US dollars on my person (around $800) which wasn't ideal and thought my partner was doing the same. I had some currency from the country I live (42 Bahrain Dinar - I'm from the UK but ut live in Bahrain) which I put with my underwear in a separate pocket in my backpack.||We finished our fantastic tour of Siem Reap and moved on to Battembang for the next leg of our Cambodia trip. On arriving at our new hotel, I unpacked and noticed I was missing 40 Bahrain Dinar (around $100) from my bag but 2 Dinar still remained. I thoroughly searched and started to get a little concerned.||I told my partner of this and she started panicking. Instead of holding onto her $800 she had put $500 into her make-up pouch which was in her bag, of which I was unaware. She checked this straight away and it was gone. The bags had not left our sight from leaving Angkor Rural so straight away we know where the cash had been lost.||We contacted the hotel and they were obviously quite surprised (the communication was good). They informed us they would carry out an investigation amongst their staff. A few days later they told us they could not find a culprit, but as a gesture would offer us a few days stay in the hotel. This obviously wasn't really viable and I was extremley disappointed some form of financial compensation wasn't offered.||I understand we were rather nieve with the storage of the money so wasn't expecting the full amount of $600 to be reimbursed, but a gesture would have surficed seen as the money was stolen on the property (we were the only guests at the time).||Anyway.....about the resort.||It's rather quite beautiful and the owners have done a fantastic job of renovating the structures. The owner was a really nice guy who made time and was very helpful (It's why I write this with such a heavy heart). The staff were very friendly and tended to our every need, even doing braids for my partner each morning. There were a few members of staff that seemed to be less permanent and I did wonder if they had access to the rooms. ||The resort is quite far from town (around 20mins) but free transport is provided on request which is a nice touch.||What concerns me the most is this wasn't an opportunistic theft. The person(s) obviously went hunting through our belongings even taking currency which has no value to them (It's quite hard to exchange Bahrain Dinar outside of Bahrain). It's feels like our privacy was invaded and I've never felt like this before, even in a $10 hotel.||I genuinely don't want to put people off from booking this resort as it's really nice (without the theft a 4 stars minimum) and the owners are really friendly. But, you should really look to secure your belongings , no matter how comfortable...
Read moreMrs Ang has taught eco-tourism at the local university, and has put her creative energies into practice, fashioning an intimate rural Khmer paradise based on her thoughtful understanding of tourists' needs, traditional Khmer architecture, the advantages of a village setting, and her desire to let guests explore their potentials in a comfortable setting.||The luxuries here are not of material objects, but rather of peaceful contemplation -- a setting adjacent to green rice fields, bungalows constructed from old salvaged Khmer hardwood houses with tiled roofs, very sweet staff from the village, very good home-cooked meals.||Drivers are available to take you (for a charge) to the various temples of the Angkor complex (including suggestions for less known sites) and to Siem Reap town (no charge).||At our request, we were provided with a short cooking class, Khmer massage, and a trip to the local night market to search for Khmer specialties. Mrs Ang also recommended an apsara dance performance/dinner that matched her resort -- classy, intimate, great value.||The resort re-opened only last month after a pandemic closure, and we understand that there are plans for future offerings such as yoga and meditation. Their bicycles were all given to staff during the pandemic, but it could be an idea to resume this offering.||Following Buddhist precepts, the resort does not provide alcoholic beverages, but guests may bring their own.||I know that other people may seek other experiences, but for me, this is a place where I am...
