This hotel and its lovely staff made our stay in Cambodia truly comfortable. The service was way above anything we saw in the last two weeks of our travel in Vietnam and Cambodia. The staff, under the able guidance of the front desk manager Mr Sarik, conducted themselves in an admirable fashion. They were ALWAYS polite, and very willing to help with any queries. Others such as the Asst manager Mr Souen, and Mary at the reception were ever ready to offer all assistance. In the dining hall, the manager Mr Rim Magn, and Rothvathy were extremely pleasant at all times. Indeed all the staff in the restaurant were truly guest-friendly, and made each breakfast session extremely enjoyable. The rooms are spacious and squeaky clean, but for me, a few more bags of tea and some milk (coffeemate would have been good enough!), and larger bottles of water would have merited a 5 star rating. But that was a minor issue, as the staff were always ready to help. All in all, the hotel is very good, but the goodness and quiet efficiency of the staff make this hotel a great one. I have no doubt we will choose this hotel again on our next trip. Will strongly recommend this hotel to all my friends and travel groups. One other thing: given the Indian influence and the number of tourists from the Indian Subcontinent, I think it is only fair that there should be a clock showing the current time in India - along with so many other countries that find mention on the wall near...
Read moreThe main reason I'm writing this is to help people to understand that this is the same property as the Empress Angkor, although they are listed separately and have separate rates/deals. The Residence is an addition put on the hotel. I was confused as I searched and tried to get information on the difference. The front desk said the rooms were essentially the same, but Residence was newer (and further from the front of the hotel).||||As for the hotel, other reviews are fairly accurate - personnel are very courteous, outside bar is decent, breakfast buffet tends to be more Asian choices, but my kids could have eggs/pastries/fruit and managed (not into eating noodles, rice/congee for breakfast). They seem to have tuk-tuk's assigned to the hotel, so you can easily get one to take you around to Angkor Wat and stay with you. Our driver, Mr. Meng, took us all the way to Banteay Srei one day. While slower, you get a better glimpse of rural life. Pricing was confusing - only had to pay $25 for all day travel around Angkor Wat (with water bottles), but $10 for RT into town for dinner. Regardless, it was cheap.||||We booked for 4 - family suite, which consisted of 2 connecting rooms. Rooms were spacious, although showing some signs of wear/tear. ||||Only negative was they were fixing their pool, so never got to use it during our 3 days.||||Overall I would stay here again - can't beat the politeness...
Read moreThis hotel used to be the best hotel in Siem Reap. I personally think the service went downhill this time. Check-in around 1:30pm and was told that pool was closed for a pool party event (although they did offer free shuttle to their sister hotel for the pool). I was fine, but the hotel should have emailed me the pool closure and disclose this information before I check-in. I went out for dinner in the evening, and got back at 10:30pm. It was so noisy from the pool party till 11:15pm. I had to call twice to ask the hotel that it was so loud and asked them to talk to the group. Nothing was taken place at that point. Breakfast was below par by 5-Star hotel. I did talk to the operation manager to discuss the issue. Only apology, that’s all. Nothing offers to me. I think It was lack of communication within the management. Yes, they could earn from the pool party, but it also affected many other guests in hotel. They should consider a fair deal to everyone in hotel since I paid for a good hotel to rest, not to listen to loud music/noise.
I do not recommend Empress Hotel to my friends and families. I probably try better hotels elsewhere.
2 Star Review for them. 1 for a young lady at the counter named, Chom-Long and 1 for the cleaning crews for the hotel room. 0 for...
