Stayed for 3 nights early January with my best friend to unwind and enjoy backcountry nature in the Nordegg area. Expanse Cottages was exactly what we were looking for. Our cottage Kutenai was super cozy and surrounded by beautiful trees. It has all the amenities you could ask for. Particularly appreciated a fully-equipped kitchen, fire place and outdoor fire pit area, lovely balcony and bbq, and a complete binder full of information about outdoor activities in the area. Can’t think of anything they missed! The place is very clean as well and check-in & out is contactless (important during COVID19). There’s a nice little trail leaving right from the cabin taking you through the meadows (great for cross country skiing or snowshoeing). On other days we hiked Siffleur Falls, Bighorn Canyon & Crescent Falls (easy and beautiful trails). We will be back to explore more of this stunning area in Alberta.

Beautiful cottage! Very clean and well maintained. Lovely host and great trust between us. My husband James and I check in late and check out early, only need to leave the key. The hosts are very thoughtful and leave all kinds of stuff for us. Basically you only need to bring in food and cloth to leave there. They provide shampoo, bedding, salt, cooking stuff, coffee, etc. Before we went there, we were worried about the cleaning due to Covid. We actually brought a lot of thing but never use. They are super organized and we were so impressed by how much small stuff like ingredients they provide. Also the lovely travel guide booklet. Room is warm enough. 2 km drive from Hwy 11 and the road is full of snow. 30 mins drive to see Ice Bubble view point in Abraham Lake. Highly recommended. I was told by another guest that they run tours to ice bubble lake but we went on our own. #ExpanseCottage

If you love nature and want a very comfortable stay ...you need to stay here! We came for our anniversary and as seasoned cabin renters ...Expanse Cottages has really thought of it all! We always take extra pans ..bedding ...towels etc..because so many cabins weve stayed in lacked so much..NOT HERE! Everything is labeled.. bed is super comfy..You literally just need your clothes and food...There's even a labeled grease can under the sink! Lol We loved it so much were going back in September! The hosts are amazing! They definitely take pride in having their guests comfortable and relaxed! Truly an undiscovered gem!

We were very fortunate to visit Expanse Cottages in early March with my wife’s parents while Old Man Winter had his last hurrah. We enjoyed it so much, my inlaws booked all four cabins for the households of our entire family in mid-May where we were able to see Spring start coming into bloom.||||“Meticulous” is the word that describes the property. The cottages are very clean, with good layouts, well-equipped, mindful COVID-19 policies as well it offers the surrounding beauty of the outdoors with back trails where you can experience tranquility in your getaway from the every day. The property is also well-lit at night.||||Everything in the units is properly labeled and the notes/reminders scream out great attention to detail (or an OCD complexity, which I can certainly appreciate being cut from the same cloth!). I can envision some personalities may find the reminders a bit much, but to me it speaks highly to the pride of care and ownership evident.||||We stayed in Kutenai both times. Though a smaller unit without an oven (there was a stovetop), we liked how it was nice and central among the four units. We did have a chance to quickly peek in all four cabins during our two visits and noticed they each made reasonably good use of their space.||||We don’t like it too smoky inside, so we opted out on the wood-burning fireplace. However, we did indulge in the outside fire pit where there is also a picnic table, ample space and free daily ration of firewood. Kindling, newspaper, pre-cut wood was all ready to go and the batch of wood burned cleanly both times. A tank of fire water is ready for when you are done! There is also a large bucket out front for refills of any items you require.||||For those entertainment and social media buffs who want to stay plugged in, the property does have WiFi but being out in the woods, signal strength can vary, though we had a strong phone signal. No cinema size TV screen either; we had a few laughs pretending to be Michael Scott from the Office with his plasma. But in reality we felt these are all positives in disguise. Advice here – just disconnect. I brought my laptop both times and didn’t even turn it on the second time (which is a feat in itself).||||I was not directly involved in the booking process both trips. However, from feedback received it was streamlined and efficient with no direct face-to-face (awesome given the pandemic). ||||The brother and sister owners play off each other’s strengths: one lives out of town and handles bookings whereas the other lives on site and manages the property. It seems like other family members come around to chip in and help BUT the team is also exceptionally brilliant at being non-intrusive.||||We couldn’t have thought of a better arrangement where all our family can come together during these difficult times. The team at Expanse Cottages goes above and beyond in their own special way to deliver value, from cleanliness of the units right down to the beautiful postcards they provide and the special little touches such as the treats for my father-in-law’s 65th. Again, I go back to my first impression - meticulous. There is no doubt in my mind I will get a response to my review like all the other reviews! To the team - best of luck with the expansion - we hope you continue keeping up the good work and bringing your "A" game as you grow.||||Please indicate if you found this review helpful as it will allow me to better focus my future...

Our short stay of 5 nights at this location was wonderful.||. ||Our son and grandson(6yrs old) joined us for 4 nights. The cabin was immaculately clean and was comfortably cosy for the four of us. ||||A really nice amenity in the cabins is the wood burning stove. It was more than adequate in heating our cabin when we experienced a day and a half of rain at the end of September during our stay, along with day time highs of 5 degrees Celsius.||||Firewood is supplied and replenished every day to ensure we had firewood for our outdoor fire pit and indoor stove, if necessary.||||Being a family run operation, we didn’t experience any hiccups in customer service. All of our requests were dealt with in a very timely manner by smiling and appreciated staff. Communication with the staff is key to exceptional service. This is not a hotel, so, communicate with the staff and give them a reasonable time to respond to your request. Remember, you are in a remote location.||||If you are looking for a comfortable, we’ll equipped cabin, to escape the day to day stress and enjoy some relaxing and peaceful time hiking, fishing, relaxing by the campfire and roasting hotdogs and marshmallows, this is what you’re looking for. Hands down, this is your choice!!||||The location is very easy to find, and it’s close proximity to Nordegg is convenient.||||Would I recommend this location as a very relaxing and isolated location? Absolutely, do not hesitate to reserve your next trip.||||We have stayed in numerous rental locations throughout the world and we were extremely impressed with the commitment to superior customer service at this location.||||I commend you on a job very, very well done. We will be back. Thank...

Stayed at Expanse cottages in February. We rented "The Rock" cabin. Check in was easy - pulled into the cabin area, was unsure of which was ours and where to park, got a shout from across the lot from the host checking to see if I was looking for "The Rock", and he told me where to go. That is as much personal interaction as we had. Check in was unpack and there you are. Check out was leave the key on the table and there you go! We way over packed. Brought items we thought we might need (they all stayed in the truck). Every thing you need is in the cabin. Kitchen has every item you could want, brilliant guide to the local area with what to do, see, where to go etc. If you need a crock-pot (slow cooker) there is one available.... and the list goes on. The interior was well thought out, wood fire was amazing. Bed was very comfortable. The cabins are close but are still private. Tired from a days hiking we sat out and enjoyed the quite and the amazing sky at night. We would highly recommend staying here and will definitely...
