This was our second time visiting Tunnel Mountain with our RV. About 4 years ago we came and stayed in the A-Loop of Village 2. It was fully paved and you literally just had to parallel park your trailer in the spot. All sites were lined up on either side so there was absolutely zero privacy. We only had power at this site but it was still a pretty nice set up. Fast forward 4 years and we stayed in the Trailer Court where there is full service - power, water and sewer. The sites were spread out much better and most were pull through and gravel. Depending on which side you got, you would either have a hill on one side of you going up or one hill on the side of you going down. There are trees to separate you from other campers but not much. If you are looking for privacy, I would say Tunnel Mountain is probably not for you. We enjoy meeting other campers so it was fine for us. The full service is really nice and the pull through makes set up a breeze…not a single levelling block was used! The bathrooms were really nice and had free showers. Honestly, we were lucky to get the site as we were initially booked at Village 2 but notifications allowed us to cancel that reservation and book at the Trailer Court. There are tons of hiking and biking trails around right off of the camping site and you are about 5 min from Banff….you can’t beat that. The staff were all super friendly and nice. It was quite busy though which does detract from a relaxing stay. Everyone was very respectful and obeyed quiet time and I didn’t hear a peep of music being played. On the down side….the train. If you are a camper, you know what I’m talking about. I don’t know what it is but it seems we always end up camping beside a bloody train and hear the horn at all hours of the night. Bring your ear plugs! Also, another major thing for me….the cell service is horrible. Some may say that this is a good thing as you don’t need to be on your phone whilst camping…I say phooey….i came to see animals, not live like one. Let’s face it folks, most of us need internet - even just a little and it is almost non existent here. I’m typing this review before bed on my notes app because I can’t even access bloody Google Maps! Hopefully I won’t forget to post it when I get back to the land of cell service. Honestly, the pictures say it all about...
Read moreAt first, the name “Trailer Court” gave us pause, but this Campground (CG) turned out to be a great stay. Located just minutes outside the town of Banff, it’s one of three Tunnel Mountain CGs in Banff National Park. The Trailer Court offers full hookups, Tunnel Mountain I has no hookups, and Tunnel Mountain II offers electric only. When we arrived at Banff National Park, we passed through the park toll booth and purchased a 4-day Canadian National Park pass. Along with the daily site fee, there was a $11.50 reservation fee plus local taxes. For navigation, we used RV Life GPS, Google Maps, and Waze. Waze suggested turning off for Tunnel Mountain before reaching the town of Banff, but both RV Life and Google Maps directed us farther in. We followed RV Life and Google Maps, which had us turn left onto Fox Street — a narrow, residential road that leads to the Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court CG gate. In this case, we should have followed Waze and turned on Tunnel Mountain Road that goes directly to the gate. At the gate, a staff member provided a helpful overview and handed out CG rules and information while we were in line, which sped up the check-in process. Once at the gatehouse, we received our site assignment and directions. We stayed in site B820 — a pull-through with full hookups (30 AMP). Sites in this CG are pull-outs along a tiered road climbing the hillside. Our site easily accommodated our 40’ fifth wheel and F-450, with plenty of room to disconnect and park. Utilities were well-placed, and spacing between sites was generous. Being on an outer row gave us a private yard area that didn’t look into neighboring sites. There’s no CG WiFi, but we had 2 bars of Verizon and T-Mobile. Despite the surrounding trees, we had enough sky exposure for Starlink to give us decent internet (25.6 Mbps download). The picnic table included a built-in metal grill plate — a nice convenience for outdoor cooking. Bathhouses and dumpsters were conveniently placed throughout the CG. A highlight one morning was watching elk grazing just above our site — a real treat. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The CG was peaceful, well-kept, and very convenient to Banff and all the...
Read moreTunnel Mountain Trailer Court is our 112th stop and we stayed for 13 night and would rate it a 4.5 overall. If interested in staying here during peak season, you should become very familiar with the new Parks Canada reservation system (which I really like) and understand it will be difficult to book a slot unless you did so the day when the reservation system opened. And be sure to buy your park pass to expedite your visit – in our case one for the car and one for the motor home. Check in was a breeze using the bar code from the reservation and the person checking me in was hilarious. In fact, all park staff we encountered were excellent. The alignment of the sites is unique as you are almost parallel to the road and when booking, know that you could be sharing a site. We were in the 200 section and had awesome views. The site was level and the utilities were fine except we threw the 30 amp circuit twice. Restrooms were clean and saw staff there cleaning them a few times each week. The park is very convenient to Hwy 1 and town is a short distance downhill. You will see elk, foxes (a few ran right under our rig), many ground squirrels and coyotes (we reported sighting of 2 to the rangers). Would not be wise to let your dogs wander off leash or outside unattended. There are no real cut throughs to the bathrooms from one section to the other so we had people literally walking within a few feet of our door – not cool. Otherwise, highly recommend this park. Connectivity: No park WiFi; Verizon 25.6 down/8.4 up; T-Mobile 13.1 down/3.1 up. Significant tower congestion before 10 am...
