Unfortunately, my experience was not a positive one. First and foremost, there are only a few picnic tables available, and they cannot be reserved. This means that visitors have to arrive early in the day to try and secure a spot, and even then, it's a challenge. To make matters worse, the road leading to Jones Lake is in terrible condition. It's bumpy, rocky, and uneven, which can make for a very uncomfortable and frustrating drive, especially if you're not used to driving on rough terrain. In the end, I would not recommend Jones Lake to anyone. The hassle of trying to find a spot to picnic combined with the difficult drive just isn't worth it. I certainly won't be returning, and I would advise anyone else looking for a relaxing day out to consider other options

This campsite is maintained by BC Hydro so it's free! Take exit 153 from Hwy 1. It is then 9 kms up the FSR. I would suggest an SUV or Truck is your best bet. The sites are large and we were able to get two huge tents on one site. There are three banks of sites. Most sites are very close to the lake. They have picnic tables, fire pits and clean outhouses as well. The lake is very shallow but not too cold in July/August which is nice. There is some trout in the lake but it seems some of the fish aren't surviving so they have a revitalization project to help restock and bring up the numbers. The views are beautiful!

This place is awesome. Absolutely beautiful. The campsites are great. They have picnic tables. Fire pits. And outhouses. I do believe it is owned by BC Hydro. And it is free camping. At least when I went it was. All that they ask is you don't stay for more than 14 days in the year. You clean up your garbage. And not be loud at night. A 4x4 is strongly recommended. As your traveling 10 km up the side of a mountain on a logging type road. You could get up there with a car. But if you're not careful you can destroy your car. The road gets pretty rough.

For people who like to take their off roading vehicles or cross overs and have there own set up (tables) if…taken since free first come first serve… for beautiful space..it is worth it! So whomever cares about picnic tables available or not when for one it’s free!! Wrote about what’s so great it’s taken or how fun it is to off-road as I read some posts, and peoples opinions to promote or not is great and are forsure there own opinions.. and oviously have learned it’s not for them or what they can make to the destination safely and without that as only issue so for people whom own reliable rocky roads to travel out back and can great and for some the trip didn’t work and lesson learned for next time..so…other then travel and no free tables left, boohoo ;) how was the trip? 2 not getting a free site isn’t good enough?! . Great spot so enjoy if your up for fun time ..great 5 k adventure to possible, no tables (-BYOT) incase. but don’t let that stop you from a beautiful space. What works for others may not for others but it’s about back camping and not low riders ;) had to post as I’m reading up and as the travel may be an issue for others but atleast then post what was good then? ide say zen is good and worth the travel through the backroads and at your own no fault off roading ;) ;) insurance ;) worth the adventure!! Enjoy peeps and keep your teslas off the 5k ;) nite. Spell check later Thanks for the advice if the travel though and I’m gonna make sure I’ve got my seating incase it’s so lovely and not booked that I take the chance to have a spot just like any other whom takes the chance for...

I have a heart ❤️for this place. So beautiful and is the place known as Waleach which means a peaceful resting place in the Coast Salish language. The view at the south end of this six km long lake is actually the Skagit Range which is comprised of the highest peaks of what is part of the Canadian Cascade Mountain Range. The north end of the lake is actually a reservoir and a damn surrounded by three separate Campsites with a total capacity of 55 sites and two day use picnic areas. I am the Recreation Area Warden for this Public Use Management Area surrounding the dam which is owned and operated by BCHydro. We welcome you to visit the Site especially during the Campground Season which is from May First to October 30th each year. Remember this is an extreme environment located in the sub alpine altitude of approximately 2000 feet above sea level. There are no services like Power,Telephone or Running water so bring water and proper gear for camping in this high altitude. There are eight Pit Toilets locates through the area. It gets cold at night and during summer there are a lot of Bears,Cougars and other wildlife present. Please adhere to the backwoods camping strategy of packing Out whatever you pack In as there are only small bear vaults for trash and no place for larger items to be disposed of. The lake has excellent fishing with three Varieties of Trout as well as a health Signal Crayfish populations. Please Fishing Enthusiasts do not haul your boat up the 9km of logging road between November to the end of April as the lake is frozen solid until the first week of...

the ~6 mile forest road to the lake is not terrible. gravel with many potholes, at most about an 8% grade. We saw several sedans but ideally you need at least an SUV or AWD. the lake itself is beautiful and campsites seem nice and secluded. BUT we were upset because we drove from Washington with this site in mind for the night. All info i found online said this area is open all year round for camping. But when we pulled up on May 1st the signs on the locked gates that said they open April 30th and a little paper sign was taped to each gate saying they would be closed until May 3rd this year. Real bummer, especially when there is no signage indicating this at the bottom of the 6mi road, nor mention of this on their website..... also note, no cell service...
