We booked our stay with Cozy Cabins in January 2022, for a stay in July 2022. We were excited to visit the resort with our young family - an infant and a toddler. The property is beautiful - a wonderful private lake with a small nature trail around it, a short walk to a provincial park, a swing set, a huge grassy field, a small river, rowboats and kayaks, fire pits and barbecues and a supply of wood, and lovely gravel roads to bike on. There was a huge pile of sand at the beach and a little bridge over the river (which, if you asked my toddler, were the best parts). The water was pristine and there were tadpoles everywhere (that was the best part for me!). The wildlife is abundant - eagles, owls, hearing loons, the toads, bats at night. The downside - and it is one that, no matter how I frame it, I can't seem to get past - is that there were mice in our cabin. We had three mice in our cabin - and were provided traps, but perhaps the only thing worse than hearing mice scurrying around (potentially over your sleeping infant in a bassinet in the kitchen), is hearing them suffer and scream as they die or are severely wounded in traps but manage to escape and leave a trail of bloody footprints all over the kitchen counter. We had to store all of our food for the week in the oven or hanging from the ceiling for the week, which was extremely inconvenient but otherwise the mice kept coming. Our unit only caught three, but the cabin next to ours caught seven in 24 hours and actually left because of it while another cabin that we spoke to also found a mouse in theirs before they left mid-week as well. For our cabin, the issue seemed to primarily be that the screen on the second level was not flush with the outside of the cabin and there was a two-inch gap that allowed mice to come in whenever they pleased. It was pretty upsetting for me - and judging by the reactions of the other families staying during the same week as us, the issue was not limited to only our cabin. My kiddo still talks about Cozy Cabins all the time, and he loved it. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around paying almost $300 a night for a cabin that has a mouse problem. We did a second trip to the Okanagan/Vernon area later in the summer and spent a week camping and staying in motels and it cost less than half of our week at Cozy Cabins. In addition, between the time we booked and the time we arrived, Cozy Cabins changed ownership, increased the prices by what I would consider significantly too much, and rebranded from a nature resort to a "wellness" resort. I live on Vancouver Island, and we have enough hippie-granola wellness facilities, what I wanted was a time to relax and make family memories surrounded by beautiful nature. To me, the direction the facility is taking seems to be appealing more to those wanting a wellness retreat than to young families looking for a destination to come back to year after year to watch their kids grow up there.
In short: the price was too much for living with mice and the rebranding doesn't sit well with me as it feels too much like a business rather than being welcomed with open arms to...

Each day we swam in the lake, caught fish, rode horses, hiked, had campfires and ran free. At the time there were 2 cabins by the lake (Deer and Bear) and the main house. The property was run by Jules and Hilda. Jules was a character. A mountain man with stories of hunting bears and cougars, and living the backwoods - as a young boy the stories were of legend. After a week, we went home.
My family always talk about trip, but for whatever reason we never asked our parents about the location. The trip became locked in time, the stories became fantasy, the place magical and the location lost forever.
2019 Now married and with three kids. Through friends, my wife heard of a nature resort near Echo Lake and decided to book a week away from the city and back to nature. For whatever reason, I didn't look at the website ... just went with it.
Upon arriving we were greeted by Harold and brought to our very nice cabin (Beaver). Our family quickly settled in. The kids immediately went to the lake - there they found nature (tadpoles, frogs, fish, and more), swimming, rope swig, row boats, docks, etc. Over the next few days we explored the property, met other families, had camp fires, and enjoyed being away from everything.
Over the first few days, I was noticeably silent. Standing by the lake, I couldn't help but think I had been here ... so many things were familiar but different (much better now). By Tuesday, I called my parents and started to connect the dots, including confirmation by Kim. This was the lost world found from all those years ago.
Our family had a wonderful time and we look forward to going back. Harold and Kim have made so many improvements to the property making it welcoming and family friendly, while keeping it rustic. Like 30 years ago, my kids now talk about that magical place...
Read moreOverall it was nice. We stayed in the elk cabin. Lake is nice and the area surrounding. Very private spot. For the price I would say it’s okay ish. First night a huge infestation of ants WITH WINGS hung out on the kitchen ceiling. The fireplace is nice but the host definitely didn’t keep it that warm for us before we got there, appreciate the effort but I think if it was anyone else they’d probably have trouble starting it and be a little cold for an hour but we are used to wood stoves so we got a fire going quick to warm up. Bed is comfy. We just felt a little unwelcome because of all the reminders like the sign above the bbq saying propane is not cheap tho I thought spending the amount you do that would be included? or the fact that we had the only broken oar on any of the cabin boats as they say don’t leave the oars in the boats any broken they’ll charge you $50 I think or more. So that was weird. As well as the fact that at the end of your stay your expected to sweep and mop the cabin or they’ll charge for any inconvenience. Of course I agree with tidying up a space that you stayed in to be respectful. BUT I’ve never had to sweep and mop a bnb or a hotel, really I thought that was why there’s cabin hosts? There rules where a little confusing to do with the dogs. No dogs on beaches, tho I saw 3 dogs on the beach everyday we where there. No dogs allowed to stay in the cabin alone which is confusing. What if I wanted to go on the boat? Can’t leave my dog at the cabin or the beach.. the maps of the place are super confusing. But anyway, for the amount I spent I think the space was nice. You do have to bring everything though, shampoo, soap, sugar, blankets...
