BEWARE BEFORE BOOKING: GUESTS ARE NOT WELCOME HERE BY THE OWNERS! Unfortunately our stay here got off to a bad start, right from the moment we checked-in when we got reprimanded in the way of a rude outburst in temper by the owner Robert for being what he considered "late" for a check-in when we arrived at the property at 3:45pm. Note: On the website it clearly states check-in is between 3-5pm. We had discussed an earlier time as we would all be arriving in Naramata around 1pm, Robert said we could not get into our rooms earlier than 3pm.. so we proceeded to go for lunch and arrive at the property after we knew we could get in our rooms. Everything continued to go downhill from there and our stay was extremely awkward and uncomfortable as the owners made us feel like we were NOT WELCOME in their space in which we were paying over $1000 per night as a group to stay. This place came recommended by a member of our group who stayed here last year and had a good experience, however, the lady who was previously running everything was no longer here and the owners Robert and his wife Juanita were dealing with us (very poorly I might add). To better frame things, we are a group of 4 couples in our mid-late 30's with two babies under 1, so by no means wild or disrespectful like Robert claimed when he refused to give us the 10% back he offered us prior to booking our stay. The discount was offered because it was in the peak of covid and we were unsure if things would be open to enjoy and the A/C unit was not working in one of the rooms in the previous stay. Several uncomfortable transactions were shared between us and the owners during out short time here. For example, Juanita would roll her eyes and give us dirty looks and proceeded to talk about us negatively in front of us while on a facetime call in the common dining room. It was apparent she lacked respect for us when she laughed in our faces when we let her know her cat and dog that are at the property were eating a dead mouse right at the entrance of the facility in which we nearly stepped on when we entered. Her response to this news was "does that bother you? the dog has eaten worse before" YES a dead animal bothers me and would bother others guests as well! Another odd moment, was asking when we wanted the continental breakfast set up, which on the website says between 7:30-9:30 so they agreed to have it ready by 8 .. but when some of the party went down for 8:30/9 it was made apparent that this was seen as disrespectful.. clearly they were operating on their own time and not their paying guests. Also, on check out, we were asked to be out of our rooms at 11, which is fine, and we were...but we were told we could use the pool and BBQ on the patio for another hour while we waited to leave...so we did and again Roberts wife called us out, later using this as an excuse to not refund the 10%. BOTTOM LINE these people should not be dealing with their customers as it truly ruined what could have been an enjoyable stay here. AND not only did the owner Robert refuse to e-transfer the 10%, BUT he threatened us if we were to review. We will not be returning here, and will strongly advise anyone else against...
Read moreArrived at The Bench D’Or on May 28th for a three day stay. We had booked and paid in full March 26th. We chose this resort mainly because it had a hot tub and a pool. Both were unusable during our stay. ||Upon check-in, we were informed that the hot tub was broken and it wasn’t known how long it would take to repair but there was an urgent call to see if it could be fixed. We were told the next morning that it couldn’t be repaired until at least mid June. ||The pool was dirty and cold - not warm enough for swimming. The pool had been turned up to 21 on our last day there. Sometime in June apparently the pool person would come in more often but I guess May was too early to be concerned with maintenance. ||Air conditioning in the suite, although the binder in the living room stated how to control the temperature, went from maybe about 70 to 82 in the middle of the night. Apparently the temperature was being centrally controlled, not as stated in the binder in the suite.||We were disappointed in this accommodation and the state of the place. We booked nice dinners and enjoyed the area, but our accommodations were definitely not luxurious or worth the price charged. When we wrote an email to give feedback on our visit, Robert, the owner, replied sarcastically to our note. ||Lack of regard for customer service by the owners. We have stayed in B&Bs before where the owners have been welcoming and attentive and we have enjoyed their hospitality. This is definitely not...
