Restaurant review only: Let me begin by stating the service was impeccable. Our server was helpful, patient, knowledgeable and kind. We also advised her of a severe seafood allergy by a member of our party. We are very grateful that the handling of this issue was taken very seriously. A different chef was engaged to prepare my nieces meal so as to ensure no issues with cross contamination occurred. It's worth noting she did enjoy her meal. This review is for the (lack of) quality for the remaining 3 meals.
It's also important to note that our family has been going to Danny's for NUMBEROUS years. Family get togethers, special events or just because we've enjoyed their food so this experience was a huge disappointment as we are aware of their level of expertise in meal creation. I also understand the current landscape as the service industry is having enormous difficulty with staffing, however, if I'm going to be expected to pay for a meal I also expect it to meet a minimum expectation of quality.
I had the escargot app and Coquille St Jacques main. The escargot looked like it had been made by a person attending a middle school cooking class. It had small mushroom bits at the bottom which obviously released quite a bit of water in the cooking as the plate was very watery. The mushrooms were topped by small escargot and finally melted mozzarella that had been sprinkled with a bit of parsley. There had been no broiling and cheese, so it wasn't crisp to the taste or even appealing to the sight. With level of water on the plate even the garlic flavouring was muted. My main contained 2.5 scallops. The first one was okay. The second had an odd yellowish orange colour and tasted a bit odd. The 3rd had the same colour and tasted so bad that I spit it out as I was fearful it would make me ill.
My sister had the Thai coconut salmon and she indicated it tasted fishy. If you're not familiar with fish, it's not supposed to taste fishy and, if it does, it's usually a sign of it being old.
My 87 year old mother had the seafood chowder. It was a very nice portion size for an app, however, as she put it, was very bland.
I hope this is an isolated incident and we will try the restaurant again, however, if a similar issue occurs, we will not be...
Read moreA find of a different kind. I was travelling for business between Miramichi, Bathurst & Dalhousie. I needed a place to lay my head that was clean, had decent amenities and expense friendly. I found Danny’s through the BW website and decided to give it a chance. Not your typical “chain” motel but an old style drive up motor hotel that has grown and updated over the years. I found out it had recently changed hands and become a BW affiliated property.|For my needs, quite a find. The room was really nice and updated, the click flooring was appreciated with the slushy weather. The room was warm and there was an outer corridor to mitigate the winter winds. I had a Queen with a sofa bed, not super spacious but more than adequate to my needs. The room included a fridge, microwave and Keurig coffee maker, flat screen tv, decent wifi and a desk to work at. The bathroom was updated, though a little tight for my 6’5 frame, but workable. There was a small “gym” for some cardio and an on site restaurant.|The room was quiet and I even received a courtesy call to see if things were up to standard. |The breakfast that was included was fantastic, cooked to order and served quickly and efficiently. |The staff are lovely and I have already booked my next visit for when I am back...
Read moreService was the worse. The shelf fell off the wall that sits in between the beds. We were told that the maintenance was not in and no one could come to get it or fix it, it has been in our room on the floor for 3 days now. Breakfast service in included however it took a long time and we were not asked or offered water. We were told if we wanted it we had to ask for it even though they had the water glasses on the table. We were also not asked if we would like a refill on coffee. People ordering the same food as we had ordered and who came in after we did got their food first and we were told they are busy. I complained and the server got defensive and when she did come by and asked if we would like a refill and we still had 3/4 of our cup left so we said no, she looked at me and said “I asked if he wanted a refill and he said no”. This is unprofessional as she said it with a tone and in front of other guests. On the first morning we received potatoes wedges with our food, the second morning when our food came and there were none I asked and the server said it depends on the cook whether you get them or not. This stay was not a one night stay, we had...
