We did not have a reservation which is a must during the peak season. We were caught off guard as we spent more time than we had planned visiting the Cabot Trail area. The main Campground was full thus we were offered a spot in the Overflow Campground. It is located about 5 Km north of the main campground beside the Cabot Trail just underneath “Grande Falaise” (The Great Cliff). There is pavement all the way. The interior roads are gravel and in good condition.. Signage is poor. Without information from the main Campground attendant, we would not have known this area was the overflow site. Check in at the main Office was efficient and friendly. The rules are fairly basic. Our site, OF14, was a grassed area beside a picnic table marked OF14, We backed into the site as we wanted to face the cliff and forest rather than the road. It was easily long enough for our Coach and Towed. Services were none (other than the picnic table). There are vault toilets available for those that need them.. Distancing is good for a rural park. Our site was flat and even. Overall the overflow area was better than an unserviced site at the main campground. Park attendants showed up a few times just to make sure everyone there had paid and passes were visible. We shared the area with one other Motor Home and two other tenters. Hiway traffic disappeared by 8:00PM so we had a very quiet and restful night. We paid $23.00 per night and we feel we received good value.

This is a beautiful campsite, right on the Cabot trail on the western part the National Park. Great location and well organised. During this my second stay, I rented one of their tent/cabins. They come with a heater --a nice feature for the middle of the fall and space to sit and enjoy. It comes advertised as having a charger but this is a bit of a fib. There is a plug but it doesn't work. When I asked about it, I was told that because it's from solar, it's hit and miss. Not because there is no Sun, but because the panels may be obstructed by branches and we cannot cut from the branches, they said. But the price is not being trimmed either. So they know the branches obstruct the panels in specific units, won't do anything about it, but they still advertise the chargers and charge (pun intended) full price for them. Government nightmare. The ladies at the front desk offered very kindly to charge my phone. I'm grateful for that. But the paid ability to DO it conveniently overnight at my leisure was not there. If you want to rent one of these tents in the park, buyer beware.

Cape breton National park Cheticamp Campground. We could not get the Otentik but managed to booked an equipped tent. First time we stayed in a Equipped tent but experience is great. There is a kitchen/ cooking shelter which has enough tables, fire place , water and electricity. Every equipped tent has a Grill and 1/2 propane tanks, pots and pans ,plates etc. Sleeping pads and insulation pads were helpful to protect from the cold floor. There was a program run by the park staff about whales which was highly appreciated by our kids. Visitor center has ice and other essential supplies. Even you can buy sweaters eventhough it is expensive. Overall staying in the park Cape brenton was fantastic, fun , comfortable and clean.

Big spacious federally run campground in spectacular natural settings surrounded by mountains, next to Cheticamp river, Robers Brook passes right through it, with 2 big trails, Acadian and Salmon Pools starting directly on the premices. Proximity of the fast running river and brook means you'll be hearing soothing sound of running water that feels like distant waterfall everywhere in the camp. It also means sound sleep every night.

Visitor center and bookstore open everyday 9-5. Sites for every family and need, bigger and smaller, with electricity and water and without. Most have fireplaces, but not all. Make sure the one you book has it.

If you are looking to experience more nature, seeing bright stars at night with almost no light pollution and you have a tent, than choose the furthest sites without electricity.

All amenities are close by, you'll still be able to recharge your electronics, so you can get the most authentic unforgettable experience. From all campgrounds I stayed so far this is my favorite. Amazing location in close proximity to at least 10 well known trails, right next to Gypsum mine lake and only few kilometers away from Skyline trail. Highly recommend!

Its a well known fact that big stretches of Cabot Trail don't have mobile connection or very weak one and campground is no exception. Drive 3.2 km towards town to convenience store where you can buy firewood and enjoy good mobile connection or drive further into Cheticamp. Do screenshots of weather forecasts and all maps you're planning to use for the day - chances are there won't be enough connection strength to access the maps when you're on the road or at the campground.

It was never a problem for me. Its good to be without wi-fi and mobile for a while. Just stay organized and...

TLDR below.

By far the worst campsite we went to on our trip. Filthy bathrooms, like piss everywhere, 1 shower per hut so there was always a 3 person wait. Hot water was nice but if you didn't have a serviced site or were in overflow you were a 15 minute walk from potable water ( only one for the whole camp)

Also it was SOO noisy, there were people everywhere making noise past the quiet hours and like being unnecessarily loud.kids running around screaming cause it's dark and running right infront of your tent and we have a dog so she would flip out and start barking then people flashing their flash lights walking about chatting. Please understand this was after a long day and I just wanted to sleep it was like 11. cars driving untiil 12 am shining their lights in your tent and for somereason someone was banging a pot at like 11 pm for 20 mins.

Oh yeah and there were a million wasps. For some reason they loved the pine trees there and so under every pine tree was at least 50 wasps buzzing right over your head and falling on the picnic table. Woke up to a tent covered in wasps.

1 star for hot water 1 stars for dogs welcome.

TLDR:

Filthy bathrooms, pee everywhere and crowded. Wasps everywhere. Nothing special to look at - big park with picnic tables. Crowded campground, no privacy and like people being ridiculously loud for no reason. ( like not cause theyre laughing and having a good time, like loudly talking about how to get to the bathrooms and walking right infront or...
