The motel is affordable and in the perfect location for those who are doing the Cabot Trail. It is at the entrance to the provincial park close to the ocean and on a river. There is a beautiful trail through the grounds where we were able to watch muskrats and a beaver in the river. The grounds are extremely well kept with lots of space for outdoor activites, a fire pit and lots of seating spread around the property. The staff were friendly, quick to answer any questions about the area and ensured we were enjoying our stay. We loved that there was an actual key for the room father than a swipe card ( silly, I know, but the nostalgia, lol). The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. The chair in our room was so comfortable I want one for home. There was free wifi and coffee and tea were avaliable in the main office. The water in the shower took a very long time to get to a comfortable temperature. We had to turn the fridge on when we arrived and that also took awhile to get to a good temperature. They also do not allow pets, which sucks but is understandable. It was so quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed our stay and will return.

Stayed here for the past four nights (June 2025) and loved it. Location is perfect. You can literally see the Welcome to Cape Breton Highlands National Park sign from the rooms. You are only minutes from seeing some of the most iconic spots on the Cabot Trail. The motel is also right on a beautiful river and there are trails in the back of the motel that you are welcome to hike on. In addition to this, there is also a fire pit and plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the river and mountains in the distance. As for the room and bathroom, it was clean. Plenty of room to hang and store items which was great as we stayed 4 nights and needed a place to put our hiking gear and other items. As for service, it was top tier. The owner was super kind and made the check in process smooth. I was given maps of the area and some good recommendations. In the morning, the owner has coffee ready to go for guests which is super convenient as the closest gas station is in the opposite direction of the national park. All in all, I would certainly stay here again and recommend it to others. Great owners and great location.

Great little motel and grounds situated, literally, on the border with the park. Sitting outside listening to the river and the birds was a very peaceful and relaxing experience. As another reviewer mentioned, this venue is also as close as one can get to the free EV chargers at the nearby visitor center except for the park campground, and easily walkable to and from. The room itself was adequate and not out of line with other nightly rates in the area. The property has some very pleasant trails throughout that I highly recommend exploring. While I wouldn’t let it keep me from staying again, I was sort of scolded by the owner for using an induction cooktop connected only to my vehicle in the parking lot. While he claimed there was a rule against it, I sure wasn’t aware of it nor did I see it posted anywhere. The following night, a nearby room was cooking on an open flame not much further than where my cooktop was and they had no issue. The owner could have handled the situation better than he did, but I guess this issue would be unlikely for most. Everything else about the stay was fine.

I spent 3 nights at the Cornerstone in mid-June 2025. I selected it based on reviews in TripAdvisor and elsewhere and they definitely earns the 5 stars. The owners, Cathy and Greg, are extremely welcoming and helpful, providing excellent tips for places to go and sights to see that often aren't covered in other sources. ||All the deluxe rooms in the block closer to the river were booked up, but I was perfectly happy with "standard" room I had, which was closer to the road but still plenty close to the river. It was spacious and well furnished, with a very practical layout. It was also immaculately clean. I was especially impressed that housekeeping managed to vacuum up some trail mix that I had accidentally spilled behind the dresser before I could even alert them to it. The mini-fridge was great to have, and there was also a microwave. Plenty of hot water and good pressure in the shower. Road noise from the Cabot Trail was not a problem at all, even with the windows partially open.||The location is fantastic. Great views of the hills/mountains and the Chéticamp River, and literally just steps to the entrance of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. It's true that one needs to drive 7-10 minutes south to get to restaurants and shops in Chéticamp village, but I didn't find that to be bothersome at all. ||I don't know when I'll get back to Cape Breton, but when I do I will definitely stay at...

Stayed here with my aunt on our Cabot trail trip. The owners were above and beyond when we checked in. They’re very knowledgeable about the sites around. Cute place, great location. It’s decent if you’re not looking for anything fancy. Some light bulbs were burnt out so that was annoying. I’m just disappointed because we woke up freezing our butts off in the middle of the night. Turns out the heat wasn’t working. When my aunt went to complain in the morning all she got was “why didn’t you call us?” Well. It was 3 am. It’s super rude to call someone at 3 am. Plus we were not thinking straight we were very tired. Pretty much ruined our day because we were tired and grumpy. Also if you’re tall the shower is really short 😂😂. It’s super close to the entrance to the highlands national park entrance. We travelled from Alberta.

Reading through the comments. Seems like whomever is answering them gets defensive and unprofessional with bad reviews. You guys really shouldn’t it looks horrible on the company. Some of the reviews are seemingly legit, some are not exactly legit. People can figure it out by reading them. But it’s a huge turn off when the owner is being rude...
