I was really looking forward to some "time off" after a hectic year of work. My friend and I found booked an overnight stay with breakfast and four rounds (two per day). Here is a quick summary of my "vacation" which in my opinion, was ruined by my experience because of the golf staff. Just as a frame of reference, my friend and I are experienced and decent golfers (~12-15 handicap) but we are fast players as we seldom finish a round over 4.25 hours if it's just the two of us.
Good: . course was very scenic with some very unique holes . first day was very rainy but the course drained well by the second day . staff at the Inn were very friendly and welcoming . restaurant staff were very friendly
Bad: . Marshals needs to be educated on customer service and etiquette - aggressive, not friendly and definitely not welcoming . On the 2nd day, we were paired up with a very pleasant couple, but the starter (Marshal) spoke to them and basically ignored us . Also on the 2nd day, one marshal (Vic) stopped us and told us to quicken our pace of play, even through we were only five minutes behind. When we told him it was because we let a twosome (on carts) play through, he basically scolded us for doing so. . Vic also told us we were holding up play. But when we looked back, there were no other groups behind us for at least two holes, either on the tee box or on the fairway - so we didn't understand which "groups" here was referring to. All four of us asked him to point out where were the players but he declined to comment. . I lost a head cover during my round and when I returned to the marshal (starter area), he offered little help. I went into the pro shop and basically was offered the same amount of empathy, no offer to mail it back to me despite their awareness of my imminent departure. . Food at the restaurant was awful. Had a burger for lunch on the first day and it was dry, tasteless and way overpriced ($24). Based on this, we decided not to make dinner reservations and headed into Owen Sound. Breakfast the next day was your standard fare that you might find at a Holiday Inn. . Overheard two gentlemen in the waiting area complaining about the food the previous night and how it was awful, and definitely not worth the price. However, they did acknowledge that their displeasure had nothing to do with the service. . Cabins are near the Inn and there was a very noisy party going on that went well past 11:00pm
Summary: . For $225 a round, I will definitely not play there again. The marshals ruined it for me. . They classify themselves as a resort but instead of being pampered, it felt like it we were being herded...
Read moreWe had a lovely weekend celebrating our Anniversary. We were here when the resort first opened so it was interesting to see the differences in the area as they were only just doing the landscaping last time||We had the same room as before - the Stewart Suite. Plenty of room and appreciated the fridge. Bed was very comfortable, very clean bathroom. All the staff we encountered were friendly and wanted to ensure we were having a good time||We ate dinner the first night in the restaurant and couldn't fault any of our choices, all was very tasty and service was excellent but not intrusive||My husband golfed twice and enjoyed playing with the people they paired him up with. I had a pedicure at the spa which was lovely, then spent time relaxing on the terrace overlooking the water, the views are very peaceful and it is lovely just watching the water and boats. I also walked to the lighthouse and beach, and dangled my feet in the water on the dock. The waitress on the terrace was very kind and kept me topped up with water as it was very hot||We took the bikes out on the trails and it was great that they provided helmets. Unfortunately I think the area will become a victim of its own success as they are planning on having 1000 properties there, so this will cut into the trails and all the peaceful areas that make it so lovely||There was a problem with wasps on the patio so we moved to the bar to have one of the wood fired pizzas before leaving, it was the last day for them this season and it was delicious. Unfortunately at some point I left my Marks and Spencers hooded top either on the patio or in the bar. It was never handed in - if you can afford to stay or golf at Cobble Beach I am sure you can afford to buy your own fleece instead of stealing mine - especially as it was the last thing my Dad bought me last year before he passed away ||We ventured into Owen Sound for dinner on the Sunday, unfortunately it looked a very run down town. There appears to be a huge drug and homeless problem, it was like being in downtown Toronto. There seemed to be little effort to make the town look attractive which is a shame, there was garbage everywhere from people going through the bins, many areas were overgrown with weeds, people were laid out on the ground, others were begging for money and cigarettes. There is a huge contrast between the town and the areas outside it heading towards the resort. Not sure how you solve that one, but just a warning to others to maybe go to one of the other towns nearby for dinner if you are not eating...
Read moreWe went with a group of friends for a 2 day 1 night stay and play package. My 1st time being here. The course itself was beautiful. Despite heavy rains for days prior to tee off and most of the course being a huge puddle...including greens, the aesthetics and scenery made it still worthwhile.... on the 2nd day, course was in much better shape and golf was that much better. What wasn't acceptable and definitely making the 3 hr drive there regrettable, was the attitude of staff and the level of service we received from the starter, course marshals, restaurant and bar and even the rooms themselves. I had higher expectations from such a place and that staff would be properly trained and treat guests accordingly. But we were treated like we really didnt matter and that our business was almost unwelcomed. The restaurants were understaffed. Hence very long waits to get our food, beverages and any type of service. We dont blame the servers but the management need to do better to staff more accordingly. The 1st night, we were told the restaurant was full due to a reservation for 20 people. While we were there we saw 2 tables of 10 each. During a time when covid is again out of control and I believe the government has issued maximum limits of 6 per table???? Unbelievable. Our room was nice and spacious enough. There was an upper level with a Murphy bed and a sofa, and a queen bed on first floor. Bathroom was large and had a walk in shower and large soak tub. However, again during a time when I believe hotels are required to not only clean but sanitize rooms after each stay, there was a long piece of hair (over 12 inches) still on the bathroom floor. Cleaning is not a priority here obviously. Even with all that didnt meet expectations, it was the interactions with staff that was most disappointing. The starter, range caretaker, and other course related staff were just plain rude, unfriendly, and obviously did not care about amy of the guests and how they felt. 8/10 for the course and 2/10 for staff. I would never go back nor...
