The view of this campground is OMG, spectacular đ. I was planning to stay for a night but I had a meeting and their wifi isn't strong enough for an online meeting, so I didn't stay.
Regardless, I came in to hopefully try the lobster chowder that so many people mentioned in the reviews, but unfortunately that wasn't opened. However, I was able to do a short hike there that lead to the top of the mountain with 360 view of the cape. Highly recommend this hike when you're in Meat Cove. Insanely beautiful and not difficult, take about 20-25mins to the top. I talked to some people at the camp and they're very friendly. Even though, I didn't stay, they were still very helpful and nice, let me park by the office while hiking and use the washroom. During my trip around the highland, I find the locals here are very friendly, kind, and honest. I love the vibe of this community. The washroom is super nice and clean, looks fairly new, it's built like a rustic cabin, you can smell the scent of the wood. I hope to come back again, maybe during Fall season to see this little gem in foliage.
Lastly to mention, I don't think the road is bad after reading many reviews people saying it's rugged, difficult, etc. Yes, it's dirt road but the first 2 km is in very good shape, no pot holes, after that there are some pot holes, but not so bad at all, some sections around the elbow turns are paved. My 1994 camper van can go in and out without any issue, maybe a bit careful during bad weather. Definitely recommend this place, you have to visit here during your trip around Cape Breton. Not...
Read moreMeat Cove campground is exactly what youâd hope would be at the end of a nearly impassable section of road which feels like youâve driven to the end of the world, and then some.
Moments after arriving we were greeted by Justin, who treated us like long time friends from the second weâd met him. He gave us a quick tour around, pointed out which sites were available and let us pick a spot to what felt right for us.
After you setup camp, it wouldnât be a bad idea to hit up the chowder house and enjoy a cold beer and snack on the deck. Meat cove may be one of the most beautiful places Iâve camped at to date. We were lucky to have perfect weather.
Showers and flushing toilet facilities were a nice touch, and were always clean. All the staff are very friendly and always making sure you have everything you need. They treat you like family.
Pro tips:
If you donât have a smaller tent, reconsider your gear before venturing out to meat cove to spend a night or more. We saw many people struggling and some even left because they couldnât get their tent up. Itâs very windy there, and youâre camping on the edge of a mountain.
Arrive EARLY. Many people didnât get to stay because they arrived too late. Itâs a first come first served campground, and the earlier you arrive... the nicer the spot you get to choose.
All in all, I really truly recommend spending a night or more at meat cove. One of the best sleeps in a tent Iâve ever had. Would...
Read moreThis campground on the northern most tip of Nova Scotia was everything we were looking for and more. The road is winding and semiunpaved getting there, but it was well worth it! Warning: this destination is super popular and the campground gets full fast as it is first come first served. We booked a cabin for our first night to make sure we had a spot since we were going to get there later in the afternoon, and I'm glad I did! The rustic cabins (no electricity) were very clean and comfortable to sleep in. It had two beds in it (a full and a twin) and a nice little table to cook or eat at, especially during inclement weather. After dinner, it was nice to sit on the porch with our chairs and enjoy the evening. The second night of our stay, we were able to snatch campsite 20 which had unparalleled and unobstructed views of the ocean and the beach below.
It was nice, with it being so remote, to have such nice amenities as well! The bathrooms were clean, the free showers hot, free drinking water that tasted great, and a sink with running water to do all your dishes in! It was also super helpful to enjoy their free WiFi with it being so remote. We were able to plan our daily activities before leaving for the day.
Finally, they have a small restaurant on-site, and we can't recommend it enough. The Meat Cove Chowder Hut was delicious! We had onion rings, mussels, and fish and chips. Everything tasted fresh and came out hot.
We'll...
