My family and I spent my birthday weekend at PLB, where we've stayed multiple times. We booked the "Pyramid" cabin - a standalone bungalow that has a private BBQ and an outdoor porch that serves as the dining area of the unit, along with a set of red lawn chairs in the grassy area to lounge in.
On our third day while getting ready for lunch, we saw a woman stop outside our bungalow while walking her dog. She was letting her dog poop and urinate less than a metre from our dining table. My wife opened our cabin door and said "excuse me, would you please not let your dog do that there".
Instead of being even remotely conscientious or apologetic, this woman laughed out loud in my wife's face like it was the most absurd thing she'd ever heard, stretched out her arms and loudly proclaimed that she was the owner, and that all of this was her property. (As I understand it, the owner lives on-site and has her own lawn. So why she brings her dog to poop at guests' cabins instead of her own lawn, I'll never know.)
I've attached a picture showing the little patch of grass in front of the cabin right next to the only dining table at the cabin. We were dumbfounded with how rude and obnoxious this person was. If it were a staff member, I would bring it up with the manager, and if it were the manager I would bring it up with the owner. But she was the owner, so instead of giving them more of our money and renting canoes from PLB to have a day out on the lake like we initially planned, we packed up and left cutting our stay short and made plans elsewhere.
While checking-out, the staff were kind and apologetic but otherwise offered no service recovery. Just a shrug of the shoulders and an exasperated "well, that's the owner". Additionally, in the week since, they've not even bothered to reach out to us.
Anyway, if I could give less than one star, I would. We'll never be back. If you spend $1700 to book a cabin there like I did, just remember that this self-important woman owns the whole place and will let her dog defecate next to your dining table where you'll eat and where your kids might play, because well, she owns the whole place, she'll do what she likes, and there's nothing you can do about it even though you're paying resort prices.
Aside from this person's rudeness and disgusting lack of hygiene, I'll review the cabin itself. Patricia Lake itself is beautiful but the resort, while it has its charm, is pretty run down by now. The bathroom had two lights out, many of the blinds are spoilt and won't come all the way down, the bathroom door doesn't fit the door frame allowing you to see into the bathroom from outside even with the door closed, the bathroom floor heating doesn't work, the floors turn your feet black, and the "coffee table" is a set of varnished tree stump blocks that are severely cracked, splitting, and sharp. Book a campground, you'll have a...
Read moreJust a warning to people about their BOOKING FEE. Anyone would think that a BOOKING FEE is a charge you incur when you book. I have checked the website carefully and it states, “$40 non-refundable booking fee. Booking fee - Please note if you cancel your reservation outside of the 14 days prior to arrival for any reason there is a $40 non-refundable booking fee.” I booked one time for 2 rooms and they are charging two $40 booking fee. Got in touch with Nathan and he said it’s non- negotiable. I asked him how is that fair when I only booked ONCE? He was not pleasant on the phone, to the point of discourteous and rude. Nathan said I can go on and on about my feelings but he won’t do anything about the double booking fee. I even asked him, if I booked one time for 10 rooms, does he think it’s fair to charge me ten times the booking fee and he flat out said Yes! The manner you spoke with me is not nice, and I am not upset because of the $40 per se. IT IS THE PRINCIPLE BEHIND IT. A BOOKING FEE IS A CHARGE FOR BOOKING. If I booked two times, charge me twice. But I only booked ONCE. We would have loved to book with you guys again but you need to be clearer on your site and need to provide better customer service. Add the fine prints if you have to because NOWHERE ON YOUR SITE DOES IT SAY THAT THE BOOKING FEE IS BASED ON THE NUMBER OF UNITS BOOKED.
Nathan, that was low. I took a screenshot of your policies page before I posted my review. I cover my bases and I always do my research. For you to amend and modify your website after I posted my review, that is unbelievably low. Instead of taking accountability, you are covering your tracks and hiding the fact that your information was not complete to begin with. Your site did not mention for every reservation made nor for every cabin booked. I have a screenshot and I can send it to you, but you know exactly what you did. Maybe your sister or Mom would have more...
Read moreOur family of five stayed for three nights at Patricia Lake Bungalows at the end of August to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I can't say enough great things about our time there. It was one of the best holidays that we have ever had!
The resort itself is absolutely beautiful. It's obvious that the grounds are well maintained and cared for. We stayed in the Pyramid Cabin, and it was practically gleaming when we walked in! The Happy Anniversary note that had been left in the primary bedroom was a personal touch that put smiles on our faces. The cabin was well stocked with dishes, cutlery, towels, blankets, pillows, etc, and was comfortable and cozy.
The staff were all very friendly, waving hello as they drove by, or stopping to chat for a moment as we sat outside on the patio. They also came around in the evening to see if there was anything else we needed (extra towels, toiler paper, etc) Not long after we arrived, we realized we hadn't brought the right pan to use for cooking in the BBQ, so when Katie came by that night, we asked if the resort had one that would work. She was back within a few minutes with two options, one of which worked perfectly and pretty much saved the plans for the next day's breakfast.
We rented two paddleboards and a kayak from the resort and had an amazing time on the lake. The views are spectacular, there are no motorized watercraft allowed so it was very calm and peaceful. With the temperatures being in the 30s, the cold mountain water felt fantastic, as did a brief soak in the hot tub after swimming in the lake.
I can see why many people return to Patricia Lake Bungalows year after year. We plan to become...
