I came in from Winnipeg to do some camping and see the falls during my vacation. I was very impressed with my experience and will absolutely be back in the near future! Booking online was easy and convenient. The site I booked wasn't accurately described online and, after a rainstorm, left the site as a big mud puddle. The office onsite was understanding and allowed me to switch sites free of charge, which was very appreciated. All of the employees were quite friendly. My stay during the week was quiet and peaceful. The Friday night was understandably more busy but everyone was still respectful about noise levels as it got later in the night. Traffic noises were really not that bad either. The comfort stations were probably the most surprising for me in that they were clean!! It's obvious that Ontario has a bit more pride in their parks than Manitoba. I appreciated the modern toilets and that the building wasn't crawling with cobwebs and flies. The only disappointment was the state of them the last day I was there. I don't understand how someone can think spreading their bodily fluids all over the toilet seats is in any way acceptable behavior. Maintenance had it cleaned up before the end of the day, which was appreciated. I didn't get the chance to check out most of the trails nor the beach but will definitely be adding those to my to-do list on the next stay!

The falls at Kakabeka are of course great. The campsites have decent privacy. Of course next to the highway you can hear some road noise at night, not disruptive but if you want an “into the woods” experience this isn’t it. Nice you can walk into the Village of Kakabeka for food/coffee/ice cream. Would have loved to have time to explore the hike to the Little Falls but only stopped there two nights and at 30 celcius on our one full day we did the beach instead. The beach was rather disappointing. The road to it was awful and a little too far to want to walk with all the beach stuff. Also no sand? It’s like a harrowed field of mud lol. My toddler loved it and making mud pies, but us and most people set up shop on the grass behind. The water was decent although a pretty small roped off swim area.

We stated one night in the Kakabeka falls riverside campground in Ontario near Thunder Bay. First time there. Although our tiny 2 person back packing tent looked minuscule next to the giant motorhomes that required welding cable sized power connections and multiple satellite dishes so that people could say they were “camping”, the place was surprisingly quiet and clean. Occasional rug rats were biking around, but otherwise parks Canada kept a lid on mayhem. The comfort station was clean and pleasant, heated too. Would recommend again.

  • PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING A RIVERSIDE CAMPGROUND *

First things first, the Kakabeca Falls are spectacular however, there are some important things to note before considering booking a Riverside Campsites. Firstly, you are right by the highway. Expect to deal with the sound of trucks, cars AND TRAINS all day and all night. We were awoken by the sound of trucks and a train in the middle of the night. Secondly these campsites are constantly damp. The spray from the falls settles in these campsites. Day and night, it feels like your camping in a swamp, and it you have to encounter rain, it's going to be very challenging to navigate in the already damp conditions. Thirdly, the MOSQUITOS love the dampness and they're not your ordinary mosquito. The mosquitos are larger and hungrier. The bites I received from these mosquitos are significantly large. The restrooms are close by but the showers and laundry facilities are a 5...
