Even when we just spent a couple of hours here, I truly recommend to plan a day trip or a weekend getaway here. Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the natural beauty of Ontario, Canada. The park is located just 30 minutes from the city of Thunder Bay and is home to one of the most stunning waterfalls in the region. The falls, which cascade 40 meters down a rugged rock face, are a sight to behold and a perfect backdrop for any nature lover or photographer.
Aside from the falls, the park offers a range of activities for visitors of all ages. Hiking trails wind through lush forests and along the banks of the Kaministiquia River, providing excellent opportunities for bird watching and wildlife spotting. There are also picnic areas, campsites, and playgrounds, making the park an ideal destination for families.
One of the highlights of the park is the "Greenstone Trail," a moderate-level hike that takes visitors on a 9.3 km loop through the forest and along the river. The trail features several scenic lookout points and provides a great opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the park. Even though, we didn’t have the chance to do the loop trail, we are looking forward to do it next time we visit this lovely destination.
Overall, Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park is a fantastic destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Ontario. With its stunning waterfall, hiking trails, and family-friendly amenities, the park is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to the...

Read moreThe Park, campground, and shops/visitor's centers are impeccable. Clean, well-kept buildings open to reveal the cleanest, most thoughtfully designed bathroom and shower facilities I and my well-travelled friends have ever encountered. The young staffers were knowledgeable, helpful, and always polite, as well. Campsites are different sizes, but all have vegetation surrounding the individual sites, so each feels like a private, wilderness retreat! Birdsong, the soft rumbling of the falls, and an occasional cricket or chipmunk are the music of this ethereal place.
And then, there's the falls! These falls are deep, resonant cascades that toss up a silver mist so fine and cool, you smile and breathe in deeply to enjoy the whole sensation. Thundering down to the lower portion of the Kaministiqua River, visitors see miriad layers of volcanic rock cut through by the power of rushing water. I have loved this place from the first memories I have of visiting here with my extended family as a child. Then we could get closer, even onto the very rocks the river cut through. The mist shrouds the entire park early mornings. Reminds the traveler of morning walks in the UK & Ireland, enveloped in a shimmering, cool...
