2 Adults, 2 Kids, one night in a queen suite. Mixed feelings on returning, probably won't considering the options in Pembroke.
Pros - Beautiful pool area, nice mattresses, renovated rooms looked nice.
Cons - renovations seemed to only be aesthetic, old room entry card readers worked 50% of the time, absolutely 0 pressure in showers and the water temperature fluctuates as if someone is flushing a toilet elsewhere. Old, incredibly loud furnace/fan unit right beside the bed.
When we arrived, on a Saturday, at check-in time, we were greeted outside the main entrance and asked to enter through the "restaurant" entrance and wait as there was a wedding ceremony in the entrance.....I kid you not, not a reception, the actual ceremony, in the entrance. So my wife and I gathered our two young kids (8 and 2) with the luggage and entered into a narrow, low ceiling hall were the restaurant washrooms were and had to wait for about 5-10 minutes while the reception went to get us our key's and room info.
The pool entrance is also off the main entrance/reception area and of course the kids wanted to go swimming. It was very awkward to say the least, walking through the back of a wedding ceremony in bath ropes and bathing suits while trying to keep two excited kids quiet. To top it off, later, as we went down to see the entrance area (as it is large and very nice), with the kids, the wedding party was still there doing photos, again awkward and intrusive feelings as our kids wanted to see the fireplace and sit on the couches, you know, be excited kids.
The restaurant had very friendly staff but the quality of food left a lot to be desired, especially considering the cost. Eggs benedict and a Spanish omelette were ordered, the eggs were served with the yolks completely cooked through and the omelette had the frozen sausage you would find at McDonalds as their "spicy sausage", not real sausage. For a $14 omelette I expect real food.
The pool area was the only saving grace to the hotel, tons of sunlight in the morning and afternoon and not over salted.
In the end, if you are going here, check to make sure a wedding is not happening in the entrance area on your check in day and I would recommend going across the street to the truck...
Read moreOver the weekend, while attending a wedding in their banquet hall, I stayed in one of their suites (303). The room was very clean and quiet. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the linens were clean and pressed. The sitting area was perfect for relaxing before and after the wedding. The bathroom was clean but a bit small; however, as a single occupant, it met my needs. There was plenty of hot water and an ample supply of clean towels. The lobby and banquet hall was very nice and clean. Plenty of sitting areas in a wide open space. Madison, the concierge who checked me in, was terrific. She had a beautiful personality and was incredibly welcoming. She was also one of the servers at the wedding, and her work ethic was inspiring. As a vegetarian, I appreciated that she went out of her way to ensure I left the wedding with a full stomach! The evening concierge staff was exceptional. Despite the ongoing wedding, they were very attentive to our needs. I had to get a taxi for a relative, and the staff facilitated that request with courtesy, even to the person who may have been a bit tipsy at the time. The morning checkout was excellent, with fresh coffee ready in the lobby. The same person who checked me out had worked the evening before. Despite their long shifts, the staff never stopped smiling and maintained a wonderful attitude. The cleaning staff was equally impressive. Before I left, I was able to thank the cleaner, and she was very personable. The restaurant was nice. I had the avocado toast that hit the spot. Our server, who was the bartender the night before at the wedding was working hard, and was tentative to our needs, despite having a long night serving us! All the amenities were clean, the pool looked amazing, and the staff made for a...
Read moreNew Year's Disappointment - Avoid This Restaurant My New Year's getaway with my date at this Best Western was unfortunately a series of letdowns. We specifically chose this location hoping for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday, but was met with disappointment after disappointment, starting before we even arrived. The first major issue was the hot tub being out of service. This was a key amenity we were looking forward to. The pool was in an appalling state. The water was discolored and had an unmistakable, pungent odor of urine, rendering it completely unusable. It was honestly disgusting and deeply concerning. While I appreciate that the majority of the staff were helpful and kind, this positive aspect was overshadowed by the horrific experience with the restaurant manager. This individual was miserable, power-tripping, and utterly insufferable. Their attitude single-handedly ruined the entire experience for us. Honestly, it's rare to encounter service so jarringly negative, and it left a lasting negative impression. The combination of undisclosed amenity closures, unsanitary pool conditions, and the abrasive behavior of the restaurant manager made for a deeply unpleasant experience. I will certainly be booking elsewhere next time, seeking options with better amenities and a far more professional and welcoming staff. There are plenty of other hotels that will hopefully prioritize the comfort and satisfaction of their guests. This Best Western Restaurant Manager needs serious attention before it deserves...
