I had booked a two night stay at the Rodmay on ReservationDesk and due to a schedule change one of the days had to be cancelled. The cancellation was well within the cancellation policy and I had done it over the phone (big mistake) but seemingly the cancellation was never entered into the system. Forward to the day I checked in and was informed by the hotel clerk that I would have to pay for the two days. Immediately I contacted ReserafgtionDesk and they told me yes an error had occurred and they phoned the hotel at that time while I was there in the lobby. ReservationDesk then told me that a they would get back to me in a few business days regarding the refund claim (the overcharge for the two days) Having no choice but to agree, we stayed the one day and left I was charged the extra day and after ReservationDesk got back to me basically said I would have to deal with hotel if I expected a refund. So yes my problem should stem with ReservationDesk and yes good luck with that. So why only one star for the hotel? Well if you really want to stay in business perhaps a little effort. The attitude of the clerk ( who laughed in my face regarding this) and the the general ādon't careā approach to customer service are what a hotel does not need. The hotel has been around a long time and with the right owners can be around for a great deal longer but if you do not have the heart or the ambition and lets face it the money to properly run a hotel what the hell are you doing? Yes the lobby does look interesting and as a heritage craftsman provides an interesting look at our past but get up one story and reality crashes down. With only a few rooms actually able to be occupied the owners are shoe stringing some sort of renovation that is poorly planned and executed what does that mean for future clients, well not the best of experiences and one that I recommend to avoid. Go try the Old Courthouse...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWonderful experience hereā£ļøš My bf & I had literally been rescued by the coast guard from our canoe one evening due to a sudden wind gust that wasn't predicted in the forecast. We got dropped back to shore safely & thankfully at around 11 pm and were desperate to find a last min accomodation during peak season with already limited hotels/airbnb existing in Powell River. We were freezing, exhausted and dirty and just needed a hot shower. Rodmay hotel was the only place that found us an emergency room. The staff there were beyond kind and said if they didn't have room they would let us stay with them. It was very touching and we are very grateful! Charlie Bai is a realtor and manager of the hotel and was so sweet and acommodating; he and his family friends really took care of us, gave us local beers to welcome us and made us feel relaxed after the whole emergency we went through. We had showed up in wetsuit and lifejackets, sopping wet, and they stayed up later than their hours just to create a back up room for us. The room was normally supposed to by under renovation but it had a working shower, was very clean and quaint. I really like their decor and the homey historical feel of this hotel, very unique stay. The quality of the antique fixtures, wood floors, trim, etc details were very classic and well made, unlike modern hotels today. It's like going back in time and staying in a museum! We couldn't recommend these guys enough; kindest staff you'll ever meet! And a very reasonable price for staying in such a clean, beautiful room/ historical building. Definitely recommended and where we'll stay next time we are in town ššš thank y'all so...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI stayed here for 2 nights and it was pretty decent. I enjoyed the historical charm to it, the staff was helpful and friendly enough.
My only complains are the distance from the downtown, the room was a little dark, and my door wouldn't lock while inside, so I put a chair in front of it at night.
It had a TV with ROKU for Netflix and such which is a nice touch for a quaint older building, probably like 24 inch.
I got the cheapest room but I feel the value was good. $108/night was the price and honestly it was the fairest price. There is no kitchenette but the room is good enough for 2 people. I went alone but 2 could fit comfortably.
The room I had, number 19, I wouldn't recommend to a small family, if you mind being snug, it wouldn't be considered spacious for more then 1-2 but it was more than enough for one.
It had a queen sized bed, with 2 regular pillow and 2 Rodmay hotel ones on top.
A nice cover with an asian design over the bed was a welcome touch as the owners are of asian descent.
It felt very homey to be there.
When I arrived they were beside the lobby, in a dining room. Happy to help!
Overall: 4/5 I never felt unsafe despite the door not locking, maybe it was faulty, I can't say for sure. Plus the WiFi was really good for the building and location. I had 5 bars with the wifi.
Everyone I met in Powell River was nice, the hotel staff included, first time here and will be back again someday. I...
