I grew up in Powell River and always wanted to take my kids to the Patricia Theatre. I did on my last trip back. It was great. Hadn’t changed at all from the 1980s and I hear it’s now the oldest movie theatre in Canada. When I was a kid there was a nice older man that would play the pipe organ at the front of the theatre before the movie started. Sadly he’s passed away but everything is still there although it’s not played anymore. I was amazed at how nothing had changed at all. It’s like stepping back in time. Downside is when we arrived we were told they didn’t take credit card but to their credit they said I could bring cash by later and they gave me the cash to buy tickets and popcorn and I paid them back later in the day. You don’t see that kind of service or trust very often anymore. Can’t recommend it enough...
Read moreIndependent theater mostly run by a friendly and dedicated group of local volunteers. The theater itself is old but the only place in town to see movies. They have a mix of blockbusters and smaller movies. A film festival and occasional independent movies.
It's got a little for everyone. And has what you'd expect in terms of snacks.
If they were to get one amenity they don't have currently I would wish they took the time to setup a card reader. Even a square reader would be great. Having to go to a cash machine is both an inconvenience and unnecessary in this day and age. Hell I would chip in to help them get one if they want to start a gofundme to get one. Let's do it!
Edit: they now have a card reader, probably because they read this review and no...

One obscure movie that nobody has ever heard of. Thst is generally what plays at the Patricia. Only really big epic movies are shown here. Otherwise its random movie misfits as the main films they show. It is also placed outside of the main town area. It is out of reach for people who would like to walk over from their home or take a short trip there and back. Parking is the biggest problem of all. A theatre would be great where the old white spot was torn down. Perfect placement is right there in the vacant lot of the dilapidated and condemned hotel that...
