One of the major highlights of any visit to Rimouski has to be the Parc National du Bic!
As you enter the parc you notice the ample parking space as well as the setup (water + electrical) for camper vans, could see quite a few families utilizing this and even some cook outs happening! Near the entrance is also the informtion centre where you buy the tickets for access to the park, reasonably priced and valid for a day these tickets are not checked or validated at any point through the day as you enjoy the park.
As you drive into the park you are required to maintain a speed less than 30 kmph and in some narrower zones as low as 10 kmph. Multiple water front access points mean you may have a small picnic or enjoy a kayaking experience or even plain simple photography!
During low tides a few of the islands are also accessible and have their own blend of flora, do check the timings as once the high tide comes in you should be on the mainland.
As you go deeper into the parc you will find other camping sites with public facilities (like kitchen sinks + restrooms) along with bon fire pits right by the water front for an amazing all family experience. A pity I could not spend too much time doing any of these fun activities!
Do watchout for a small exhibition in an old building which showcases a few unique artifacts (like a fossilized tortoise shell) right by the river front, in the basement of the same building (or barn?) there is a small cafe shop with a vending machine, while the shop closes by evening the coffee vending machine is operational 24/7.
We had the great fortune of spotting a porcupine, a couple of fox young ones near the same place. Unperturbed by our presence they carried on with their affairs and allowed us a few photographs!
Overall a great experience, a must visit and ideally for 2 or 3 days or maybe at the very least for half a day.
Decent rest room facilities...
Read moreParc National du Bic is so beautiful it completely surprised us!
Far exceeded our expectations, this park offers a great view of the St-Lawrence river coastline, along with its fauna.
We walked half the Grand Tour, due to rising tides part of the trail was submerged in water by the time we got to the tip, but only because we spent too much time appreciating the magnificent coastline.
We met an adorable little red fox on the beach too, he was not afraid of any visitors, and I was glad to see that everyone stayed calm and respectful of the animal’s natural habitat.
You can also rent a bike and cycle through the grand tour, but bikes cannot go on any beaches. Best way to fully appreciate this beauty is check the tides schedule and start early, but take your time to stop and breath the fresh air and watch some clouds over the horizon. One can easily spent a day just gazing the waves and clouds...
Read moreFantastic parc but NOT dog friendly. We had reserved 2 days for walking with our dog in the only trail where he is accepted. When we were all set in our RV at site #33 Macreuse, we found out we could not walk to the only trail were dogs are accepted.
Catch 22: dogs are accepted but you need transportation to get to that trail (only one trail accept dogs, and it is away from the St-Laurence river so you will most likely miss seeing all wildlife).
Also, site at Macreuse location are very closed to highway and it is difficult to get a good night sleep with trucks passing every few minutes of the night, avoid that area if you can.
On the positive side, the staff was understanding and they reimbursed our second day in full.
In conclusion, do not come to the Bic provincial parc...
