The resort itself is great. Very low key, but the cabins are nice enough to feel like you could stay quite a while comfortably. We stayed in cabin 13 and it was quite clean and orderly when we arrived. I appreciated the care they're putting into COVID safety, both in communicating and implementing their efforts to keep guests safe.
Cusheon lake itself is a great spot to relax, safe for kids, and worth visiting for a while if you're into small, peaceful lakes. From spring to fall you'll hear northern pacific tree frogs at night. If you look in the foliage bordering the lake, you'll even spot them resting in the sun. At dawn and dusk you can watch birds swooping and scooping insects from the surface of the lake. On cooler mornings when the lake is warm you can watch mist rise and float off from the water for hours as the sun rises. It's a very nice spot.
The hot tub is a nice touch. I also noticed the knives in the kitchen were in good condition and sharp. Not sure if they were new or just well-maintained, but dull knives always drive me a little crazy when vacationing somewhere with a kitchen. The washroom doesn't provide a ton of sound privacy which bothered one of my kids, but... There are worse things to deal with in life and resorts.
If you don't know Salt Spring, the area around this resort is worth visiting, which makes staying even more worthwhile. Ruckle Provincial Park isn't far off, and while it is partially a campground, you're welcome to walk the area's trails and explore the heritage sites. It's well worth an afternoon, and you might want to come back to camp there some time. Beddis beach is close to the resort, and it's also a great spot to spend an afternoon. If you're into hiking there are some great, accessible trails and views on Mount Maxwell. Outside of COVID-times, there's a nice Saturday market with local vendors.
Overall I'd highly recommend this place. It isn't conventional luxury, but it's exactly what my family's looking for in a stay-cation. We're definitely...
Read moreThis place is out of a fairytale, so tranquil and you forget there is an outside world. We had a surprise party for my husband's birthday, him and I stayed in the Chalet and his brothers family stayed in a cabin. These places are so cozy, the beds are so very comfortable we slept like baby's, waking in the morning to the gentle sound of rain on the roof and singing frogs. The manager was very kind, quick with checking us in and informative. I highly recommend taking a canoe out for a paddle in this magical lake. The only thing I feel could be added for customer satisfaction would be a good cooking knife. They do an excellent job at keeping the entire place clean even the hot tub had not a single sign of any filth. I really enjoyed the salt spring soaps they provided in the washroom. Salt and pepper are provided, they compost and recycle. I never figured out how to set up music though, for lack of tech knowledge on my part, I'm sure if I asked the office they would have helped. The bbq is very cool too, clean and in great shape. You could never be bored at Coushen lake resort. A place that feels like home! Thank you to everyone who built and sustains this wonderful place. We...
Read moreOur annual summer vacation has always been at Cusheon Lake; this is our 18th year. Cabins have kitchens adequate to make dinner for 15 (we go with a couple of other families and take turns cooking) and the A-frame sleeps about 6 in the loft for sleepovers. Although we stick mostly to our own group, we've always had friendly interactions with other guests; possibly because everyone is so relaxed. This is a very quiet, peaceful place with no public access, resort-only beach, canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, badminton, and the ever-popular hot tub. Andie and Glen have a commitment to providing a safe and scrupulously clean environment so that everyone can enjoy their getaways. I look forward to it every year.
