(i type unconventionally because of disabilities) i booked at the caswell resort for the 24th to 27th. on the 25th i wanted to extend my stay by a week (from the 27th to april 3rd). i went to the office and told the woman that that is what i would like. she said she would check the availability. she spoke with someone on the phone then told me that the manager said that when i am checking out on the 27th he would let me know then. i told her that i cant wait until im to be checking out to know! she said he is busy, has an emergency, and she is not authorized to check availablies. this of course does not make sense! no hotel would make customers wait to see if they could extend their stay until when they are to leave. if the manager had an emergency, they would have someone who would deal with these things made available to do it. and if they had told me then that it was not available, normal procedure would be to see if there was another room available for the time i wanted. the next morning i decided to talk to them again, since this was not good. i told the woman at the office that i would book online but i needed to know how to recognize which rooms were ones that i wanted. she told me what to look for, i went back to my room, checked which ones fit in, phoned her to make sure that what i was seeing on the 3rd party booking was accurate, since sometimes there are discrepancies. she said she would check, she transferred me over to the manager. we had a very long conversation, in which he was not letting me know the answer to my question and was not looking at availability, and just kept saying that he would let me know at checkout, and that there would be something that i would be happy with that fit in with what i was looking for then. i was really concerned, so i said "im trusting you on this, can i trust you?" he assured me that i could. there was a lot more said that was questionable. on the 27th i went to the office, the woman called the manager, he came in, another man came in with him, stood at the back, observing us. all i got was the run around. i was eventually told i had to checkout by 11. no reason given. whatever he was up to here, was cruel. this was a deceptive, misleading game that was being played here. to string me along like that. the conversations in the office would be on camera, verification of how i...
Read moreWe stayed at the Caswell again for our yearly cousins reunion. This year we stayed in three of the smaller cabins adjacent to the main building, with a view of the back field/yard, and one room in the opposite, newly renovated portion of lodging. The location of the Caswell is great, with walking distance to anything in town, from restaurants, shops and the post office. The waterfront property is amazing to be able to use. The cabins were basic, but were exactly as advertised. A double (or queen?) bed in the main area, sofa (that might have pulled out, we didn't try), and a small side room with a double bed. The middle cabin was comfortable and we slept pretty decently. The two on either sides' main room beds were firm. The air conditioning was a welcome necessity, as the weather was scorching back in July. Internet was available in the cabins, as well as while sitting outside (which was a must, as one of us had work that needed to be monitored). The owners were so kind and helpful. We had lovely and lengthy discussions about the changes that we'd seen over the years since they purchased the property just before covid hit. Little by little they are upgrading the premises, and it shows. The waterfront area has a great amount of space for multiple groups to be able to use it without any crowding. The natural shore extends out into the lake without getting deep, which is great for young children to safely play, and for those less comfortable with water. We were easily able to walk next door to walk along a pier that could take us to deeper water without needing to wade out. We used the kayaks daily, and life jackets were provided and easily accessible. We look forward to returning in 2026 for our next family gathering and seeing what is new...
Read moreLipstick on a pig doesn't make it right. Do yourself a favor and drive far away from this place. There is NO handicapped access. The hallways in the one building are beyond gross. The smell of cigarette smoke and the filth of the carpet. The rooms are redone, however if you don't mind your lungs being filled with the burn of the bleach they use to clean. There were some sort of stains on the curtains...who knows. The heater in the room did not work. A guy came quickly and had to light the pilot light. It went out again after 20 minutes. The room was freezing. He gave us a key to another room. We had to pack it up and move over. In this room, no heat in the bedroom or bathroom. The one chair was so loose we could not sit in it. I could go on. I won't capitalize on the one man who works there, he claims he works 24/7. He has no concept of communication. He stated that we booked through a 3rd party, that's why there's no handicapped access. Sketchy is probably a compliment for this place. Please do yourself a favor and book elsewhere. I would say any positive reviews had to be fictionalized. I'm not one to write a review. I did for this establishment in hopes of saving...
