After reading some prior reviews, I feel as though this place has gone downhill in recent years. The owners (Julie and Curtis, I believe) were not onsite and this place seems to be suffering from the lack of management. The only staff we saw regularly was Ben, the maintenance guy, who was really helpful but only there until 3:30. There were two women who also apparently worked there but I did not see them all week except for the day I arrived. ||We were a group of 11 adults (24 - 80) who rented two 3 bedroom and one 2 bedroom cottages and two aluminum fishing boats. In addition to the almost $10,000 spent on these rentals, we were required to provide large security deposits ($1000 - $1500 per cottage plus extra for the boat!) that was a hold on my credit card. I was expecting a lot more for this amount of money.||Our cottages were clean and updated, and having air conditioning was really nice. We were missing some basic necessities such as dish soap, coffee filters, ice cube trays, and other items that were on the list of items that were supposed to have been supplied so we had to go purchase these. One cottage didn’t have a toaster, one was missing a coffee maker. The pans and cooking utensils provided were old and scratched and stained. A few had stuff stuck on that I couldn’t wash off. They provided exactly the number of plates and cutlery for the # of people - if the cottage held 4 people you had 4 forks, 4 spoons, etc. One of the fridges was REALLY noisy and we made the maintenance guy aware (he was already aware) but there was no move to fix or replace it as far as I know. The beds in all the cottages were so hard they were almost impossible to sleep on; two of our group had to drive to Canadian tire to buy a mattress topper. The couch wasn’t much better.||Two of the bbq’s would not light using the igniter switch and there were no bbq lighters. The bbqs were filthy. Our neighbour actually took his apart and cleaned the whole thing before he’d cook on it! A propane tank is not supplied, you have either bring your own or rent from the resort for $50 a week.||We had rented two 14 foot aluminum fishing boats. 6 days before our arrival, my sister received an email from the resort telling her that the boat she rented had been damaged the week before, so there was no boat for her. Fishing is one of the big reasons we like to go to a cottage, so not having a boat is a big inconvenience. The resort made no effort at all to help her try and find a replacement. She did manage to find a boat at a marina on the lake but it was only available for 3 days, which wasn’t ideal.||When I arrived, I was given a pontoon boat to use instead of the aluminum boat I rented. This was a nice bonus as pontoon boats are larger and much more comfortable. To my surprise, they didn’t give me any sort of instructions about the boat, show me where to find the safety kit or life jackets, where to get gas, etc. It was “this is your boat, the key is in the ignition” and that was it. We talked to Ben later and he got us life jackets and told us where to get gas (off-site).||The aluminum boats were all sitting up on the grass and we were told these fishing boats hadn’t been in the water at all this season because they were all “junk”. We are a bit confused since why would they rent them to us if they aren’t water-ready? My sister had been told that her boat was damaged but how is that possible if it hasn’t been in the water? We don’t know what is true and what is false but getting two different stories doesn’t sit right. Their website still shows the aluminum boats for rent (at a lower price than we paid) but they were definitely not rentable while we were there.||The pool was great. It was cleaned daily and was a comfortable temperature. ||I thought their prices were more expensive than similar resorts, but once you add on the ridiculous security deposits, propane rentals, the extra gas for a pontoon boat, and $20 a bag for firewood, I ended up paying a lot more. Plus, there are charges for having more than 2 cars per cottage and a minimum $250 cleaning fee if you don’t clean your cottage when you leave. I’ve never experienced such excessive charges over and above the cost of the cottages. ||I will not return to this resort and would not recommend it to...

Read moreWe had a lovely family vacation at the Blue Pigeon Resort. We rented the Brookie which was the perfect size for our group of 8 (This cottage can accommodate 11) . An important part of vacationing with our family is that we can all sit down together at dinner and they had a table that could seat 10 so this was great. ||The bedrooms were spacious, not sure about storage for clothes as we just lived out of our suitcases and containers and did not use the dressers, if we had really unpacked it might have been a little tight. One thing we really appreciated was all the over-the-door clothes racks in every room of the cottage. They were amazing and necessary for hanging clothes, and towels.||It had two bathrooms which were great. We did end up having to supply our own toilet paper, I would have assumed this would have been provided. I would suggest to the owners of the resort to just have their staff check that all promised amenities are available on arrival, like coffee filters, napkins and if you don't supply toilet paper it should be included with the supplied amenities, we bought a pack of twelve and it lasted us the week for 8 people. ||The resort is tucked into a cove, which had great fishing, but because they are tucked into a cove the shoreline seems crowded for fishing, boaters, paddle boarders, etc. No one in our group felt comfortable swimming in the lake here as there was a lot of activity making it seem risky to swim. We stuck to the beautiful clean and heated pool that is provided for swimming.||They also rent pontoon boats, paddle boards, and seadoo. It is handy to be able to rent those things right at the resort. I'm glad we rented a pontoon boat for our stay for the week. As stated they are tucked into a cove and so it was nice to get out on the lake to go fishing with swimming where there was more room. (The rental did not come with a full tank of gas which we are accustomed to with previous rentals from marinas. Usually, you start with a full tank of gas and then return it with a full tank of gas. So on the downside, we ended up filling up the boat and because of a couple of rainy days, we didn't end up using all the gas we put in the boat, a bonus for the resort owners and the next group renting it I guess.)||We really appreciated that the kitchen was well stocked with plates and cutlery, pots and pans and other tools for cooking. I know not everyone drinks wine but a couple of wine glasses would be nice to add for those that do.||We also loved the fire pit that is provided at each cottage, you still have to buy your own wood but it was great to have that designated space for each cottage.||The owners and staff of the resort are very friendly and if you have any questions they are just a...
