Well, I have been procrastinating as usual and not getting word out there of an amazing experience we had while on the Islands for Brody's Graduation. We are from the islands but are not able to use our house as it's not wheelchair friendly. |I started looking for accommodations for a two night stay while home back in April. |My hubby is a C6 quadriplegic and is in a power chair. |There are VERY limited options for accommodations in this province, let alone on the Island. So, I made a few phone calls and sent messages to many different places, in hopes to find something close.| I spoke many times with Tiffany about the possibility of staying at the lodge. I gave her a needs list and she went at it. She was amazing! It was determined that one room they had in particular would work for us so I booked it. Thank gosh! |Anyway, fast forward to the day before graduation. |Once we arrived at the Lodge, George ( who was absolutely amazing btw) showed us to our room, which I went and scouted out to make absolutely sure it would work before unloading and getting Matt out of the van.| We immediately ran into an issue with the bed. While there was 6 inches clearance, it had a box frame under it and the lift would only go under less than a foot. He reassured me that he would figure it out and ran and got Virginia, who both went looking for a different frame. Thankfully they found one that would accommodate us and we went to work changing it out. |I CANNOT even begin to express my thanks for what they did for us! And not only that, when I went to pay for the room, it had been taken care of! What the heck!! So, me being me, I burst into tears and thanked Tiffany and Crystal profusely. To say I was shocked was an understatement!! So THANK you to Brier Island Lodge for being Amazing hosts! I honestly thought I was going to have to make the trip back to Dartmouth and come back down the next day. What a relief!! |AND, not only did the lodge do that, but Grandview on Brier, not only offered to bring our breakfast to the room, but provided it for free! Thank you so much to Katherine and Marcus! We appreciated that so much!! And huge shout out, the breakfast was amazing!! It was really the only meal I wound up eating the whole time we were home. (I didn't get the chance to eat what I had gotten from the Cafe in Tiverton because well, you know, ferries and time. Lol) 🤪||So THANK YOU to Tiffany , Virginia, George, Katherine and Marcus and Crystal for EVERYTHING you all did for us! You are all amazing!! You made our trip one I will never forget and one I will forever be grateful for! You can't beat the hospitality of the Islands!! ||Thank you from the bottom of our 💕 ...
Read moreWe’ve stayed a few times and heres the thing. They’re the only accommodation on the island and they know it. Pricing at the restaurant, per night, etc. all reflect this. They don’t need to update and modernize because it’s stay the night or enjoy driving 8-10+ hrs in a day for whale watching and let’s be real, nobody is here for a luxury week of activities. You’re here for a weekend to whale watch and leave. Yes, the rooms are old, dated, have no tv or phone, spotty wifi, and are a tad overpriced but they’re very clean, well kept and have everything you need. If you were expecting luxury and were let down, that’s on you.
The reason this place doesn’t get a 5 for me is the restaurant. The service is atrocious, slow, rude, and the servers are extremely pretentious. The menu while having some gems, is way off base what it should be for a motel restaurant. The entire dinner menu is $25-30+ with takes on seafood, lamb, tenderloin. Delicious if you want a nice dinner, but don’t look for a quick burger, club, etc. cause you won’t find it. If you’re vegetarian, vegan or have dietary issues, quite frankly you’re screwed. My recommendation is they add a few more regular diner/pub options so there’s something for the people who want a nice dinner, and those who got back from a sunset whale watch and want a club and some fries and to pass out. Breakfast is much better and decently priced, the cinnamon roll French toast is a must if you can muster waiting 15 mins for a table, and half an hour between sitting and ordering. The staff are very poor at maintaining service and become overwhelmed and rude quite easily.
Overall, it’s not a bad spot at all to crash before or after you watch some whales. Bring some food with you for the mini fridge in the room (looks like they’re getting microwaves soon too as we saw a bunch still in boxes stacked near the office), and don’t expect the Ramada and you’ll be...
Read moreThe location was fantastic, with great views of the bay up on the hill with ample parking. The room we had was spacious and comfortable which was just what you can see from reviews and pictures. What you can’t get from them is the truly tranquil environment that this property brings, so much so we extended and extra night (doable in off season, not likely to be available in the heart of the season). The staff from the moment we go there were so welcoming, sharing some of the history of the island and details of the special decor that accompanied the check in. Then came the restaurant staff and food, these exceeded expectations, the meals were prepared with homegrown ingredients where possible and the homemade haskap sundae was so good you had to save room for it the next time. Alongside this was great service and friendly conversation from all of those who helped us. George was kind to spend a few minutes with us checking in and ensuring our stay was going well, sharing he recently took over as GM and some of the plans he has for the season. We also can’t forget to mention the sweet surprises of Ella and Radar, and one other, 3 dogs that we met on the property that were all so friendly and happy to bask in any attention shared their way. We absolutely recommend this property, and this island and when we return, will look...
