Three of us traveling through Chile had made a reservation at the Cabanas KimPiyan. ( I must warn anyone going there that there is a steep drive down from the highway to the parking area. The first park is gravel and the final and steepest park is concret.) We were met by Betty and the dog. She showed us the cabin, talked about lighting the fire and asked when we planned to have breakfast the following day. She then offered us a glass of a Chiloen liquor based on the murta berry. The cabin was set up with a queen be and a single with a trundle. We decided that these were the most comfortable beds we slept on during our 16 trip. There was a sliding glass door on to a deck with a view of the sound. The counter and benches in the kitchen also had big windows looking at the water. The kitchen was fully furnished with dishes, glassware, cooking gear and utensils. There was a four-burner gas stove and full oven. Also there was a full-sized refrigerator.||||We then headed out to explore Chiloe as far as Castro and had our main meal then. Another warning: we were there on Sunday and found nearly all the restaurants in Castro closed. (We talked with Betty about that the next morning and she lamented the fact that not everyone seemed to be willing to adjust their schedules to serve a growing tourism industry.) We bought cheese, crackers, fruit and wine at the UniMarc in Castro and enjoyed the sunset with our summer overlooking the water.||||We had a nice large bathroom with a shower that had plenty of hot water.||||We decided not to light the fire that night and with the blankets and duvets we slept well. At the appointed time Betty arrived with a hot breakfast much like that described by others. She also lit the fire to take off the morning chill. It was all local food, hearty with cheese, meat, breads and jam and honey. All was very good.||||It would be a very nice place to spend a few days getting away from the rest of the world. The WiFi service was excellent and that is all you need for keeping in touch...
Read moreWe visit Chiloé mid-March 2016. We found this place through Trip Advisor. The cabins are located on a hill overlooking the Pudeto and Cumpillé rivers, with a commanding view of Ancud and the hills surrounding it. We were welcomed by the mother of the owner, who lives further down the hill, her dog and her cat. The cabins are furnished with reclaimed tree trunks that give them a special charm. Although the cabins have Wi-Fi, there is no TV, what allow guests to enjoy the peace and quiet of the place, foster reading and plain relaxing. ||Every morning the lady would bring us our breakfast. SERIOUS WARNING: the Chilote cuisine is not light. We were offered Milcaos, ( a mixture of raw shredded potatoes and mashed potatoes made into patties and fried like bannok); potato frittata; deep-fried stuffed potatoes, All came with fresh baked buns, local preserves, locally produced cheeses and butter. ||The property goes down to the rivers where you can admire the Chilean Swans or use the owners kayaks.||The cabins are heated with wood stoves. Although the days were quite warm, the mornings were sunny but cool so I learned to lit the stove pretty fast.||The cat and the dog adopted us and follow us around. On our last night the cat came into the cabin and jump into bed with us. We are cat lovers so this added a special touch to our stay.||We were sad to...
Read moreGreat location above Ancud bay!|We spent a rainy day inside this cozy cabin. We enjoyed the fire and the cabin which is all woodwork and nicely decorated. The beds were very comfortable. There is a beautiful wooden deck which we could not use due to the nonstop rain. But on a good day one can really enjoy this peaceful quiet place!||Betty welcome us and provided some products for diner as this was Christmas Eve and everything was closed for the holiday. She was very friendly and helpful, although no English at all. Her son Juan Carlos was very responsive to emails and she was waiting for us as we agreed in an email.||The kitchen is nicely equipped with most of the basics. Breakfast was simple and not included....
