As part of a Habitat for Humanity team, we were building in Quintay, but booked to stay at a hotel in Casa Blanca one hour away. We were not excited to spend two hours on a bus every day commuting, so when we discovered that the Casa Blanca hotel was also somewhat less than a stellar facility, we decided to change our lodging. (We all love Habitat for Humanity international builds and have done them all over Central and South America. However, we do not recommend participating in a Chile build as that experience lacked the high quality that we have come to expect from the organization.) We quickly found that options in Quintay were limited, but travel agent Amaranta Selby, amarantaselby@gmail.com, managed to find rooms for 10 of us at El Encanto. Owner Paulina went out of her way to make our entire stay a wonderful experience. She was more than willing to prepare meals, and she did prepare our group an amazing meal one night, but she also provided us everything we needed to prepare our own meals most nights and allowed us to use the dining room to serve it. Because our entire group was from the cold northern US, we were all anxious to take advantage of all the fresh fruits and vegetables available at the local stores, and that is what we ate most nights! Breakfast was included with our room rates, and since we needed to be at our build site each morning before Paulina normally served breakfast, she always set out food for us the night before so we had plenty to eat in the morning. My husband and I shared a room that was isolated, so we did not experience any of the thin wall noise factor that some other members of our group complained of. We loved our room. She is an extremely gracious host, and works very hard to provide her guests a wonderfully relaxing stay. I recommend...
Read moreWe had booked the hotel for three nights with the idea to spend our last days in Chile in a quiet and relax place by the sea. When we arrived the hotel was closed even when they knew the day and the time we were coming. After phoning the owner we still had to wait for 35 minutes in the street.|| ||The hotel was not ready for visitors and did not inspire confidence.: the gate was coming off the hinges, one of the outside light was missing with wires hanging out, the so called ‘garden’ was wild and had not been attended for a very long time, rubbish in the garden, a pile of furniture in one of the balconies….. and inside a mop and a bottle of cleaning product was in the middle of the stairs.|| ||The owner could not see the wrong doing in leaving the hotel unattended or the stage of the hotel. The hotel charges almost 100 American dollars what is very stiff for a location in a very modest and rundown neighbourhood. I believe the views are very niece but when arrive it was very foggy and could not appreciate the view.|| ||Although we got our deposit back, this experience had cost us a fortune in taxis and the inconvenience of finding another accommodation in Valparaiso, not to mention the ruin of the last days of our holidays.|| ||El Encanto de Quintay should not be rated as a hotel or...
Read moreWe stayed here for 2 nights and were delighted with this BnB. The room was clean, shower excellent and the bed extremely comfortable. The owners Paulina and Pamela both spoke English which was very helpful. ||The breakfasts were delicious. Toasted buns with ham and cheese or jam. Tea and coffee and fresh fruit. We were offered eggs as well. ||There is a supermarket 2 minutes walk away with anything you need including a good wine selection.||5 minutes walk down to the sea is the idyllic seaside village of Quintay with a few restaurants and a museum at the old whaling station worth a look for 800 pesos. Lots of Pelicans in and around the village. ||The owners of El Encanto invited us to join them for a BBQ dinner and drinks and it was a privilege to spend a lovely evening with them. They were friendly and hospitable hosts.||The day we left was a national holiday and transport was unavailable so they found us a local man to give us a ride to the nearest bus stop on the main road 30 minutes away. We are truly grateful for their help.||We would highly recommend this...
