Tepuhueico Lodge — Hotel in Chonchi

This was a huge disappointment and we left after one night. First, the good things: The guy on reception was very helpful, gave a good introductory tour and a good night walk. The food was good. But we soon discovered that this is not a wildlife destination and they don't even have a bird guide. The guide we were allocated spoke very poor English. The do operate a rare mammals tour but this requires them to bring in guides from the mainland. The room was adequate though they don't fit curtains to all windows. They offer rooms with bath tubs but the manager said she did not provide plugs as they are an eco lodge. She didn't speak a word of English and didn't apologise for anything, not even when we discovered there was no hot water. The long forest access road is dreadful and they don't warn you about that. A beautiful place in the middle of nature. They have different walking paths and they use all the money to preserve the nature. A really good cause and we are happy that they are doing this. The hotel is all made of wood, which is amazing. The food is delicious, great chef! The hotelroom is not super fancy. You pay quite a lot, so we expected a little bit more. But if you think that the money goes to the conservation of the park, it’s okay. Keep in mind that you also have to pay a tax. Fantastic place, in the middle of a national park, reached after few kilometers of an easy off-road trail, through a luxuriant forest and a wonderful nature. The hotel is partially renovated, a little old sometimes, but well designed, comfortable. The staff, from the guide to the chef and the waiter, is kind and joyful. Dinner was nice, authentic and warm meals. Overall, a very nice value for that lodge, offering amazing surroundings, easy trails through the forest and along the lake, even to an amazing cascade.
