I decided to stay at Pangue Lodge, attracted by the promise of a spectacular natural environment, which is certainly a plus. However, when analyzing the prices, I must say that the experience does not justify the cost.||||What really left me perplexed were the management’s policies. I had never seen a place where concern for “damaged” items was so rigorous. For example, if a towel is lightly stained with makeup, be prepared to pay the full price for it. During our stay, we had an incident where the bed was stained. Although the sheets were washed without problems, we were charged an additional $100 for a duvet and two towels (it’s curious to note that they charged me $25 for a hand towel and $25 for a body towel, which obviously doesn’t make sense considering the different sizes. This shows that the pricing is absolutely arbitrary).||||What makes me uncomfortable is that they don’t charge you a cleaning fee (which I was very willing to pay) but the full price of the object. Also, they didn’t show me the damaged towels or duvet to be transparent about the stains that allegedly didn’t wash off. So, I had to pay $100 because they told me the stains persisted but didn’t prove that they did.||||The policy of replenishing inventory every time a small incident occurs makes guests involuntary contributors to their stock of products. Furthermore, the checkout process is uncomfortable. When leaving the cabin, an entire team enters to inspect it, which makes you feel uncomfortable, as you have to wait outside while they give you the green light to leave.||||In summary, while the place is picturesque, the economic demands and questionable policies leave much to be desired. It could be an interesting experience, but only if you feel comfortable with the idea that any small oversight entails exorbitant charges and that you feel watched...

Read moreMy wife and I stayed here for two days in October 2017 on our trip along Carretera Austral and thought that our stay here was OK in comparison to our other stops. El Pangue isn't the cheapest place to stay but we didn't think the price reflected the service and quality. ||||Rooms:||The rooms were nice and large with a nice view over the lake.||||Service:||Service was generally fairly good and the team at the front desk and in the restaurant were very knowledgable. The only downside to this was the fly fishing lesson that my wife and I had which was terrible. We were both new to fly fishing and our lesson entailed being given a rod and then our instructor being in his phone for the majority of it.||||Food:||Given El Pangue is out of town, we decided to eat at the restaurant. The food was generally good however fairly expensive in comparison to other areas of Patagonia. Dinner was a set menu each night with two options which were pretty good both nights.||||Out of all of the places we have stayed in Chile, this would probably be the only one I wouldn't recommend along Carretera Austral. If I had my time over again I would have driven south all the way to Coyhaique for an extra couple of nights and skipped El Pangue and...
