Reached after a seventy kilometres drive along a single-track road from the Carretera Austral at La Junta and a short ferry journey, Fundu Los Leones certainly is remote. ||||The lodge sits on a sheltered bay overlooking the Pacific, surrounded by the green fields of the family farm, and has fabulous views. The property has hundreds of metres of beach. There is a simple air-strip close by should you have the option of flying in.||||The lodge operates 4 delightful wood cabins, simply designed but nicely furnished with very comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, wood stoves, plenty of storage and large terraces for sitting outside. Our cabin had the use of a separate day cabin with sofa and a wonderful view. ||||Being so far from civilization, there is no wi-fi. However the family will let guests to check email via a smartphone hotspot - very helpful. ||||Mauricio and Mery who own the property operate it beautifully. Their sons Nicholas and Philippe join them in the summer - helpful for us since both speak good English (whereas their parents do not). The family does everything possible to help you enjoy your stay. ||||Meals are taken in the main house often around a large table with fellow-guests, and are sumptuous… pisco sour with nuts, cheese, etc before dinner… for us (both vegetarian) they baked a delicious quiche on our first night, served with a variety of salads, followed by home-made cheesecake and fresh mint tea. On our second evening they served asparagus and gratin dauphinois. Breakfasts were equally splendid with fresh-baked rolls. Their home-made jams are wonderful - the apricot the best we ever tasted. ||||We went for several long walks on the farm, loved the bird-life, and saw dolphins from our cabin. We also had lunch one day at Hostal Valle Palena, explored the forest the other side of Puerto Raul Marin Balmaceda, and ate wild strawberries that grow on the dunes beyond.||||The family is warm and generous. They gave us good local information for exploring the area and helped us with our car, which had a slow puncture. We enjoyed our time at Fundu Los...
Read moreJust got back from an absolutely incredible week at Fundo Los Leones in Patagonia, Chile, and I can’t stop thinking about it! This place is pure magic—tucked away in the quiet Pitipalena Fjord, right on the water but still so peaceful. Every morning started with a killer sunrise, and every night ended with a sunset that looked straight out of a painting.
The whole trip was packed with adventure. Fishing was unreal—landed some beautiful brown trout, and the guides knew exactly where to go. Within minutes of checking in, our group had successfully caught 6 Chilean Wahoo, with their Guide Fran helping to maximize each outing.
We also hiked through the lush rainforest, kayaked the fjord, and even floated down the Palena River, which was beyond relaxing. One day, we took a boat tour out to the ocean, and it was wild—we saw sea lions, penguins, and dolphins, all just doing their thing in the middle of this untouched paradise.
The food? Next level. Chef Boris made some of the best meals I’ve ever had, all with fresh, local ingredients. Seriously, I’d go back just to eat.
If you’re looking for a mix of adventure, nature, and just the right amount of luxury, Fundo Los Leones is the spot. Can’t...
Read moreThis is a beautiful resort where getting there by small plane from Puerto Montt takes you over breathtaking vistas. When you get there, there are more beautiful views and total quiet. The mountains plunge into the water and we saw a small pod of dolphins just offshore. The cabins look deceptively rustic but everything is color coordinated, the sheets are pressed and everything is "just so". You don't lack for creature comforts here. Mery does the decorating and she did admit to getting a degree in design||Mery and Mauricio are wonderful hosts and cooks. These are gourmet meals set family-style using fresh, organic produce and the meat is what they have at the ranch (no antibiotics or hormones, just grazing). I had the best roast sheep (it was better than any lamb I'd tasted but they insisted it was a sheep). ||It helps to know some Spanish and Mery and Mauro are very helpful and kind. We were there in...
