We made a 7 person, 4 day family trip to Patagonia Puelo Lodge last September. It was an absolute blast, from beginning to end. The lodge itself is functional and pretty enough to blend perfectly with the majestic environment it is set in, almost by the delta of the Puelo River, with the Yates volcanoe as a dramatic backdrop and the Puelo river itself running scant meters in front of the lodge on a lazy final long and lazy curve before emptying itself into the Reloncavi estuary. |Fishing for chinook for the first time was quite an experience, always exciting and fun with the advice and constant help of very professional and knowledgeable guides, eager to take you to a good spot. |Brown and rainbow trout are also there for the catch. |If the fishing is not at its prime -which would prove difficult in this outstanding spot- it will prove hard for you to feel sour or frustrated: the breathtaking scenery and landscapes will keep you looking around in awe and disbelief. The common exotic bird watching -including species such as King Fishers, Chuchao, and even Condors- will prove a constant entertainment during the waiting times for that strike. |The food was outstanding. A perfect blend of local produce and ingredients; homely cooking gone gourmet, always keeping a simple, non pretentious style. The kitchen staff is always willing to accept menu suggestions based on the clients' tastes or preferences; seafood, game, salads. You wish for it, they will make good to please your request. Special diets are also considered. |Another thing we considered positive, is the fact that this lodge privileges a lunch stop over at the lodge itself; it's a nice break in the intense fishing activity to be able to head back to the dinning "Quincho" or common room, have a nice, hot and adequately served plate of outstanding hot food and the be able to either rush back out or -better yet- take a en express (or maybe not that express- nap in the soothing warmth and crackle of the fireplace in your native woods log cabin, to later head back to the river in renewed spirits and energy. |Once the sun sets and you are good for a good rest, do not forget to steal a glance at the skies; you might find yourself staying out longer than you would have imagined, starring the infinitely starry nights, trying to make sense out of the vastness and immensity of the Southern constellations. |I absolutely recommend this lodge. It brought new adventures and unforgettable stories to tell -including the usual fishing tall tales- to our family. If you are considering a visit to the area, you need to consider Patagonia...
Read moreOK people let me educate you. This is a fishing camp. It is probably one of the top five most beautiful places I have ever been in my life. Do not go there and expect room service and hot towels delivered every day. The place is clean and it’s very well maintained. The staff are nothing but accommodating. If you go there you were going for the main reason and that is to catch fish. The owner, manager and guides are very attentive. I want to say thank you to all of them for an absolutely wonderful experience. I left my watch there and they mailed it back to me. Thank you...
