My wife and I stayed here for one night before our morning car ferry trip across to Caleta Gonzalo. We had a room joining the rest of the house (as opposed to the separate cabanas) which was small but suitable for what we needed. If you were staying any longer than one night a separate cabana would be good for some more privacy. The room had an ensuite bathroom and was big enough for my wife and I. The included breakfast was good with eggs, toast and coffee. Breakfast starts at 8am so doesn’t leave a heap of time to arrive at the boat 2 hours early as noted on our car ferry tickets (however two hours early was way too keen in shoulder season and we could have easily got away with arriving at 9.30am for the 10.30am ferry). The wifi is terrible but that wasn’t the reason we stayed there. No major issues and a fine place to stay for an overnight. Short walk into town if you want to grab some supplies to continue your trip...
Read moreDespite the friendliest of welcomes from the elderly male owner, I really can only give Hosteria Catalina a 2-star rating. The property really has seen better days and our small, compact room on the ground floor reminded me of a very old granny room with its flowery print pillow slips and decor. We'd arrived late from the 5-hour ferry crossing and were feeling extremely cold. There was no heat from the radiators even when turned on but the owner did get us an electric radiator after also turning the heating on after I reminded him we were "mucho frio".||We woke to water dripping through the ceiling from the room above but with minimal Spanish and not seeing the owner in the morning, we left it with a bin underneath to collect the drips. Breakfast was minimal, just tea/coffee, 3 rolls between us, meat/cheese and jam. ||Our overnight stay here served its purpose but I am sorry not to be able to recommend it, despite the...
Read moreIt doesn't look like there are a lot of options in Hornopiren. That said, this place isn't very nice. The door to my upstairs room did lock, but you could just push it open so it effectively wasn't locked. The lights flickered throughout the whole house. When I turned in the lamp in the bedroom there were sparks. The towels smelled really moldy. Also they lock the sitting area until breakfast is served at 8am, so the easiest thing is to stay in the tiny rooms which aren't particularly comfortable. I think the sheets might be made of some sort of plastic-like material? ||Also, it's not this hostel's fault but there are lot of fairly large stray dogs in town which can be heard barking all day and overnight and make walking around town "exciting".||The owner was really nice though. I wouldn't recommend, but I'm not sure there are other options here. Most people are...
