Girasol Hostel is a very nice place to land and explore the Elqui Valley. It offers tranquility, art, culture, library, a swimming pool and a basketball court. Moreover, it has a special story, which I will cover below, after some practical experiences.
We traveled here as a family of four (children aged 8 and 10) and enjoyed the site to the fullest. The site is well maintained and our cabaña was clean, well equipped, comfortable, offered privacy and nice views (it’s uphill). The car can be parked next to the cabaña, which is handy.
Our children did not want to leave, because there was always something to do. Together with Christian and his well nurtured dogs we made bonfires, ate good good and drank excellent wine’s. More importantly, we had good talks.
Girasol has a special story that is worth mentioning here. It is run by two brothers (Christian and Francis) that followed up on their late mother’s dream. The Dutch artist (mime and expression) Liesbeth Paris married a Chilean journalist during Chile’s troubled times of dictatorship. They settled in Chile during the transition to democracy and raised their two boy’s into an international and Chilean cultural life. In the 2010’s Liesbeth (divorced by then) bought the site at Algarrobito. There she offered a refuge, tranquility, culture and art to travelers. However, after a few years she became ill and left the site to her children. This, alongside all kinds of art, cultural expressions and impressive memories of times long gone (but worth remembering, perhaps even for Chile).
When we left Christian told us that they are contemplating what to do exactly. They love art and sports, but also the companionship of eloquent people. For sure, we will come here again and see what they have done with the place. Visiting Girasol now is already highly...

Las veces que he ido me ha recibido Cristian, su dueño, que junto a sus perros es un amor, siempre pendiente que tu estadía sea la mejor. Lo recomiendo de...
