We stayed a week at Hotel Portillo Will never stay here again unless a luxury brand re-does the whole thing

The mountain is beautiful Being so close to Santiago, I would much rather drive up and back for day trips

Details on Hotel Portillo

Pre-Arrival communication - excellent and responsive. Juan Beiza and Jefe at the front desk.

Rooms - very tiny and extremely dusty. Balconies inexplicably have no chairs on them. Room keys stopped working every day. We had to get new keys 5 days.

Restaurant - probably the worst restaurant food we have ever had. I don’t know how it could be so bad. Very limited choices and mostly just very bland food. There is way more flavor at McDonalds or Chipotle. Even worse was the basic cleanliness. On one occasion, my wife had not received a dinner roll. She asked for one. The server turned around to a table that had abreast finished their dinner and left. He took a “used” roll from that table and handed it to my wife. We saw staff sneeze directly into silverware. We saw dirty plates being out right next to clean ones. This restaurant would fail the most basic of inspections.

To add insult to injury, the very old owner sits at a round table every day and “holds court”. We watched his whole table get served these beautiful looking sushi plates while the rest of the paying customers were served inedible atrocious food. I’m sure he was laughing at all the dummies paying him so much money for cheap bad food.

And once again the food was atrocious (as many other reviews have already stated) The biggest problem is that you are stuck with this food. There’s no town or anything other restaurants. It’s Hotel Portillo’s prison food or nothing. The ice cream was very good though. Maybe I should have just had 3 bowls of ice cream every meal and skipped the rest.

General Facilities - only 2 very tiny elevators but the whole hotel and one was broken nearly every day. Everything you see is about as you would expect if you were at a hotel in 1955.

Gym - good size and adequate equipment. Good enough.

Hot Tubs - large and nice. Excellent bar staff that checks on everyone regularly.

Ski access - perfect

Staff - Mostly good. Housekeepers are exceptionally helpful and friendly. If you don’t speak Spanish, can be some issues communicating with front desk staff

Ski storage - amazing staff. The main boot guy (wish I remembered his name) was there every day of my stay Sept6-13. This guy was amazing. I gave him my boots just once - the rest of the week he saw me walking in and had my boots by the time I reached his desk. Ski guys were great too, although, like normal humans, I had to show them my ticket every day. Made the boot guy look even better. Ski shop on site with friendly staff.

Bar - excellent cocktails

Overall - depends who you are. If you don’t mind very tasteless food, limited choices with no alternate options and zero restaurant hygiene, you’ll be okay. If you don’t mind kids screaming being heard through paper thin walls, you’ll be fine. If you don’t mind old dusty rooms around 40 sqm / 130 sqf, you’ll be fine. But if the above are not consistent with $7000-$10000 a week in your opinion, then just stay in Santiago and take some day trip tours to ski. Or stay in one of the cheaper options - Hotel Portillo gives around $200/night of value so might as well actually pay $200/night, have lunch at Tio Bobs and a la carte dinner. It’s a beautiful mountain and the lifts spin from 9-5 so you can get a ton of turns in during a day trip. And you’ll prob make a few new friends too, people are super friendly here! If you do ski Portillo, be sure to eat lunch up at Tio Bob’s and find Hano. He’s awesome and that place is a great spot with a...

Portillo was an unforgettable experience, from the moment we booked through Turistik to the breathtaking views of Laguna del Inca. The drive through the Andes was mesmerizing—each twist and turn revealing a new perspective of Chile’s stunning landscape. As we arrived, the sheer beauty of the turquoise lagoon, surrounded by towering mountains, left us speechless.

Lunch was already included in our trip, so we headed to Portillo Restaurant, eager to indulge in a comforting meal after soaking in the scenery. The warm soup was the perfect start—rich and flavorful, setting the tone for what was to come. The sorrentinos, delicate pasta parcels filled with deliciousness, were incredibly satisfying. And to top it off, dessert was an absolute treat—sweet, indulgent, and the perfect ending to our meal.

Beyond the food, what made the experience truly special was the atmosphere. The cozy yet elegant setting, the panoramic views from the dining area, and the crisp mountain air made every bite even more enjoyable. We laughed, chatted, and simply took in the magic of the moment.

Portillo isn’t just about the food or the sights—it’s about the feeling of escape, of being surrounded by nature’s grandeur while savoring some of Chile’s finest flavors. We enjoyed every second of it, and honestly, it's a place I’d love...

I am not a resort person, by any means, but after visiting Portillo resort for a week with a group of friends I was so surprised at the amazing fun we had. They staff were just AMAZING, they were all so friendly and consistently went above and beyond to make us happy. While the snow wasn't fantastic while we were there, we were still able to ski daily, take lessons, go swimming and attend some of the nightly events. We had a group of 6 and were happy we booked one of their outdoor chalets. We attended a wine tasting that was out of this world. All in all it was the perfect experience and a great way to ski in the Andes. I recommend this to any group of friends or family looking to spend a week skiing in a unique place while enjoying a relaxing vacation.

My only complaint, and why I didn't give them 5 stars, was I wish they had some day trip options. Half way through the trip I was going a bit stir crazy and the snow wasn't great. We looked into doing a day trip out of the resort, but there were no options. I know it's far removed from civilization, but it would be great if they had some options during the week to get...

I recently visited this place and while the overall experience had its merits, there were some notable drawbacks. Firstly, the traffic delays getting there were quite frustrating, causing a bit of a rocky start to the visit. Upon arrival, I was disappointed to find a lack of basic services. The absence of timely assistance and essential amenities made the wait even more inconvenient. Despite these issues, the atmosphere was pleasant, and once the services eventually became available, the staff was friendly. However, the initial inconveniences left a lingering impression. If the traffic situation could be addressed and more attention given to providing essential services, this place has the potential to offer a much smoother and enjoyable experience. While not perfect, it's worth considering a visit for the positive aspects it does offer.
