Hostal El Conquistador — Hotel in Los Vilos

Outstanding small hostal but book ahead. They seem to be always busy. Right on the water at the end of the main street. Supermarket and other stores within 3 blocks. Excellent two room 2nd floor suite with balcony and ocean view. Gated courtyard parking. Very friendly owner. Very good breakfast in a nicely decorated salon -- and you almost never get a kitchen AND included breakfast! Way more than we expected and at a reasonable US$51 price. We would have stayed extra days but even in October she was booked solid.||||Note: Despite being in business for decades, the owner seemed to have no idea that foreign tourists are exempt from the stiff 19% VAT and how to interpret info displayed to her by booking.com. We loved pur stay at hotel El Conquistador. We couldn't have stayed anywhere better.||Jo the owner , made us feel so welcome, right from the start. He even insisted on me having a cold beer with him. That wasn't difficult ! The rooms are small but very clean and have everything you need. Including a fridge.||Jo's breakfasts were made with love and attention to detail. They were delicious.||Nothing was too much trouble for him. He made his kitchen available to us at anytime.||||We spent Christmas there and even though we were such a long way from home and family (Australia) he made Christmas fun for us.||He's an interesting guy and my wife says "very handsome" , and is easy to talk too and get local and not so local information from.||Do yourself a favour. We were greeted by Norma at the gate & the drive through the very narrow gateway (built for cars & we had a SUV!) into the courtyard was a tight squeeze followed by a 5 point turn to turn the SUV around! ||Norma & daughter Victoria were most hospitable. Norma would converse in Spanish whilst Victoria orientated us in English with so much information of the things going on in Los Vilos.||Our room was cosy with a double bed & heater. Only for a one night stay was good.
