This Hotel is unlike anywhere that we have stayed before. There is a gentle feel of quiet and relaxation in quite a remote location. The rooms are set around a quadrangle with cloisters giving the feel of a monastery which it probably once was. Also in its history was clearly once a place where the rich came to take the warm mineral waters - probably 100 years ago, but the large building is still there just off the quadrangle containing lots of small rooms with marble baths - not much used now and looks a little run down, but somehow fascinating. There is a nice swimming pool area with lovely river views - the pool is filled with naturally heated volcanic waters - next to the pool is the old "cavern" with warm naturally supplied volcanic water - fun to use.||It is clear that the Hotel and grounds had been allowed to become rather run down and is now being gradually renovated. The rooms are described as suites, but this they are not - rooms are on the small size, but with comfortable king sized bed, fridge (nothing in it), room safe (not working),flatscreen TV, wardrobe, cupboard with two dressing gowns, desk and chair, three lights. Bathroom comprises shower, modern basin area, WC (+ bin - no paper down toilet since remote location). Room was ok and reasonably clean, but some of fittings, carpets, etc. could do with being updated.||Plenty of seating area in quadrangle just outside room and in the actual square with fountains.||Breakfast was adequate without being great. However we had the evening meal twice - 15,000 pesos (about £15 equiv) - only one choice for 4 courses, but was really excellent quality and value - very nice location - semi al fresco.||Staff were very friendly and helpful, but very little English spoken apart from the Manager - an attractive lady named Sofia Kim who spent some years in the USA and therefore speaks very good English.||Massages and Health treatments are available at reasonable cost.||Hotel is quite close to the National Park - Rio Los Ciproses which is a wonderful place to visit.||Basically this is a hotel which was once a retreat for the very rich and had been allowed to deteriorate. Is now being renovated and is an interesting and enjoyable place to stay with plenty of character. We certainly...
Read moreThe place is pretty run down, the rooms were remodeled at least a couple of years (10+), although they have LED TV, CATV and refrigerator, towels always smelled like were moisture.|The thermal baths are good without being great, the tubs are made of marble and old (very old! it's supposed that the father of the country used it to relax and recover after a battle). Please do not seek for comfort and modernity, this place is designed for elderly people and has barely changed since it was built in the last century.|We had high hopes for the food, because of the awards this place has won, but it was another disappoint. The dishes were not bad but under no circumstances were gourmet, all pretty simple and without any further aspiration.|The attention was not bad, but at the end they wanted to charge us more than we had originally agreed by email, I had to show them what they sent me to respect the original price.||The only high point was the heating of the room and hot baths. The central courtyard has a colony of hummingbirds that are a delight to watch and photograph!, Also its proximity to the Rio Cipreces national park is an attractive, we spent a day there and it was a lovely trecking, we saw tricahues parrots and even a condor! Highly recommend it!||I will back to this place? definitely not!|I would recommend this place? probably only to elderly people, seeking for...
Read moreMy husband, daughter and I just spent one night at Termes de Cauquenes. This is one of the strangest most overpriced places I have ever stayed. We were supposed to spend two nights but checked out ASAP the next morning. The hotel is completely run down and dirty. After checking in we found out at dinner that we were the only people in the entire hotel in the middle of nowhere. The majority of the staff was not at all friendly, and made us feel as if we were imposing on them. The total price was $120.00 U.S. for full pension which is expensive for the quality of the rooms and food. The food is supposed to be gourmet, but we were served a mediocare lunch, and the dinner was not much better. ||||Then I was even charged $10.00 U.S. to use one of the rundown filthy mineral bath tubs, which I assumed would be included in the price. I have been to hot springs in California and Nevada and was expecting something similar. This was more a house of horrors...
