Lodge Conguillio — Hotel in Melipeuco

This was truly one of the worst camping experiences of my life. For one, the rates are obscenely expensive - $40 USD for 2 people for a mediocre site with no hot water. Bathrooms are unclean, water is freezing. Zero amenities. To make matters worse, the staff is horrible. I asked at the concession whether they had wine, and I was scoffed at as if I'm insane (note: they have a bar menu with over a dozen mixed drinks ranging from pisco sours to jagermeister and everything in between, and at least as many bottled beers). Is it so crazy to think they would have Chilean wine too? They didn't need to be so rude about it. Fine, I went to sleep, only to be awoken at 6:30 on the dot by some insane Chilean screaming nonsense over a microphone that blasted through our campsite. Why? Who knows! I couldn't understand a word of his Spanish and I am a native, fluent speaker. We were not told there would be any such interruptions when we checked in or we would have asked for a campsite further from the concession. The staff act like they own the place, when in fact they are given permission to run a business from CONAF. CONAF, STRIP THESE IDIOTS OF THEIR LICENSE! I have had the loveliest vacation in Chile over the last two weeks, camping throughout Patagonia and Southern/Middle Chile - this was an unusually bad experience that has left a horrible taste in my mouth. I cannot wish enough bad on the idiots working this site. I would never return to Conguillio, which is a shame because the nature is lovely. Horrible, entitled staff - they all deserve...

Planificamos nuestro viaje con dos semanas de anticipación, viendo los reportes del clima y como se pronosticaba buen clima (soleado), decidimos reservar camping el día 17 de octubre, la reserva ser realizó desde el 28 de octubre al 31 de noviembre de 20233. Todo bien hasta el momento… Monitoreando el clima y las redes sociales del parque un día antes de iniciar al viaje me encontré con información de que iba a estar nevando y que se recomendaba acceder en vehículo 4x4. Ese mismo día escribí al whatsapp preguntando por la información del tiempo y del acceso, ya que antes había preguntado si era apto para un vehículo normal, escribí a las 10:12 am y después de mucho insistir me informaron a las 17:50 horas, cito textual: “Te comento que por el momento, el camino está apto para todo tipo de vehículo, pero te recomendamos vehículo 4x4”, sabiendo que teníamos reserva en el camping y que íbamos con un niño de 11 años.||Día 28 de octubre, vuelvo a consultar por whastapp por el acceso y las condiciones para acampar y me responden que se encuentra habilitado el camping y las cabañas y que el ingreso es por Melipueuco. Iniciamos nuestro viaje al Parque dada la información que nos había entregado, mucha lluvia, el camino con muchos hoyos y no muy buenas condiciones pero continuamos… Llegamos a la caseta de CONAF, que no se si nos vieron o no ingresar, porque bajamos de vehículo para hacer el ingreso y mostrar nuestros ticket, ingresamos a la caseta, verificaron las entradas y ni siquiera preguntaron si íbamos por el día o si nos quedaríamos, menos una recomendación sobre el camino o las condiciones climáticas que se manifestarían en unas horas más, solo nos dijeron que regreso debía ser antes de las 17:30 horas. Pésima atención y orientación a los visitantes. Continuamos con nuestro trayecto, con la incertidumbre del tiempo, avanzamos unos buenos kilómetros, pasamos laguna arcoris y continuamos, pasamos varios pozonones de agua arriesgándonos a quedar pegados o que se nos deteriorara el vehículo, al menos pasamos unos 3. Finalmente llegamos a un punto donde no podíamos seguir arriesgándonos y nos devolvimos con mucha pena de no poder concretar el objetivo principal.||Al retornar al sector de la caseta de Conaf, envié un mensaje de audio a sendas para explicar que no habíamos podido llegar, y su respuesta fue que ellos no se hacían responsables por el acceso al parque y que era imposible acampar dada las condiciones climáticas, y que no nos habían ofrecido ir a buscarnos en camioneta 4x4 porque como estábamos reservando camping, creían que no podíamos acceder a realizar ese gasto.||Pasamos un pésimo momento, considerando que llovía mucho, que nos arriesgamos en el camino y por el trato recibido de parte de las personas que trabajan en sendas conguillo por entregar información que no expuso en todo momento y que lamentablemente no nos quisieron devolver el dinero, solo pudimos optar a un cambio de fecha en la reserva. Nos sentimos engañados, podrían haber sido más transparentes e informar las condiciones que se venían y las opciones que existían para poder haber decidido si íbamos o no. Cero empatía con quienes íbamos viajando y por todo lo que tuvimos que pasar.||Trabajo en turismo y conozco cómo funciona la industria, pero sé que lo más importante es siempre proteger la integridad de las personas y de los niños, siendo transparente y entregando sugerencias para que ellos se vayan contentos con el servicio entregado, es entendible que los planes a veces tenemos que cambiarlos por factores climáticos pero si la información es entregada a tiempo nos habríamos ahorrado...

Camping days: Dec. 24-26, 2017||Camp site: Hoyon #9||Pros:||- This is a beautiful location. This particular camp site had a small trail behind it that led to the lake, it was nice and private and accidentally camped here for the first night since we did not realize that you were required to camp next to the picnic area ||- We were completely alone during most of the stay, it was fabulous||- The site included a picnic table with small roof that was very helpful for meals||- The private bathroom was not too far away and had running hot water 24 hrs a day||Cons:||- No fires allowed while we were there||- Got asked over and over if we had paid to camp there by anyone that came upon us||- We did not like that we had to camp where we parked, it was not as nice as the small area behind our picnic area||Overall: ||Great experience I highly recommend it to anyone. The beauty of the lake was breathtaking. For a splurge it is nice to choose this camp site, otherwise it’s a bit pricey to pay for a hot shower; however we did not check out the other campsites to see what...
